Google Play Music Unlimited successor YouTube Premium and YouTube Red successor YouTube Music Premium are now available in four more countries. Both the services were launched back in June and are now available in Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg and The Netherlands with monthly subscription costs that are on par with the rest of Europe.
YouTube Music Premium offers an ad-free streaming experience for Google Music users and also offers an audio-only mode if you want to listen to music while using other apps on your phone or tablet. Downloads are also available to all users, and you can stream using your Google Home or Chromecast devices. The service was originally launched on May 22 in the United States, and Google has been steadily adding more countries since launch to cater to the international market.
YouTube Premium, on the other hand, is a rebranded version of YouTube Red, which turned out to be a disappointment for Google with not enough exclusive content to warranty subscriptions for most users. The service also includes all of the benefits that you get with YouTube Music Premium. Users will be able to stream videos while browsing other apps in the background, a feature that has been heavily requested and is missing from the standard YouTube app. Users who were already subscribed to YouTube Red will be moved to YouTube Premium automatically in the newly added countries.
Services like Apple Music and Spotify are dominating the premium streaming market, and YouTube Music will definitely need to offer exclusive content if it wants to grab a slice of the market pie. Both services will take advantage of machine learning and AI to understand users’ content consumption patterns to offer more accurate suggestions.
