Release date & Where to Watch

While no official premiere date has been announced for Yellowjackets season three, production commenced in May 2024, suggesting the new season may debut in 2025. Both previous seasons are currently available for streaming on Paramount+ with Showtime and Prime Video.

Plot

Season three of Yellowjackets is set to continue the intense story where season two left off. Co-creator Ashley Lyle teased that the series will become “weirder” following the dramatic season finale, which attracted 1.5 million viewers and broke streaming records for Showtime. The fallout from a pivotal character's death will significantly impact the remaining cast, and the struggle for survival among the girls promises to escalate.

Christina Ricci, who plays Misty, hinted that season three would be even more shocking and brutal while still incorporating dark humor. Lyle confirmed that the new season would partially return to the chaotic vibe of season one despite the deeper survival themes explored in season two.

The finale left many unanswered questions. With the girls’ cabin burned down, their survival will be even more challenging during winter, especially amid rising tensions as Lottie designates Natalie as the new leader, causing friction with Shauna. Meanwhile, in the present timeline, the adult cast finds themselves entangled in a dangerous situation at Lottie’s retreat, leading to tragic consequences for Natalie.

The series will explore the aftermath of the survivors' return to the real world after their ordeal, diving into how they reorient themselves to a "normal" life. Director Karyn Kusama expressed excitement about this exploration, indicating that the characters’ struggles are far from over.

While the story spans five planned seasons, season three promises to serve as a crucial midpoint in the narrative, with the potential for warmer weather bringing new challenges and survival issues. With both timelines rich with unresolved plotlines and character developments, fans will need to brace themselves for the complexities and surprises that lie ahead.

Will there be a Special Episode before Yellowjackets Season 3 Premieres?

Yes; due to the extended wait, series co-creator Ashley Lyle has announced that a special bonus episode will be released ahead of the official Yellowjackets season three premiere, serving as a bridge between the two seasons.

Will There be more Seasons of Yellowjackets?

While Showtime has only officially renewed Yellowjackets for a third season, co-creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson have a clear vision for the series to span five seasons. Lyle told Entertainment Weekly that they’re "still on track for that" plan, though there is some flexibility. She clarified that while there’s room for adjustments, they don't envision the show exceeding five seasons.

Lyle explained, “Some shows can continue indefinitely, but with a deeply serialized story like this, which focuses so intensely on these characters' lives, it's important to reach a satisfying conclusion rather than stretching it out unnecessarily. This isn't the type of show that can just go anywhere." She added that while season two has stayed true to its original vision, the creative process always brings new surprises along the way.
