If you think wireless charging is cool but too slow, Xiaomi may soon compel you to reconsider. According to reports that surface from people who dig into beta software, Xiaomi is preparing two devices that support wireless charging of a rating of 67W, which is unprecedented.
Most wireless charging solutions right now will give you up to 15W of power, and the best can go up to 30W. Thus, what Xiaomi may be preparing right now could revolutionize the wireless charging tech.
What the XDA member “kacskrz” discovered lies in the latest MIUI 12.5 beta build, where a new string array titled “keyguard_wireless_strong_charge_67w” is to be found. This contains two names, “star” and “mars,” which seem to correspond to a model ending in “K1A” and one “K1”.
M11 was codenamed “venus,” so suggesting these are model names seems legit. It could be the Mi 11 Pro that launches on February 12, 2021, but we don’t know for sure right now.
Xiaomi reported to be working on an 80W charging tech back in October 2020, which could charge a 4,000 MAh battery from 0% to 50% in just eight minutes, and to 100% under a total of 19 minutes. It is possible that the Chinese smartphone maker decided to go with 67W instead to keep the generation of heat in check.
Also, there is mounting evidence that slower charging helps in battery longevity, so Xiaomi may want to achieve a specific target. After all, 67W are very high, too, so the charging speeds should be good enough to allow for aggressive marketing.
As for the Mi 11 Pro, which a Telegram leak group connects to the codename “star,” we also know that it’s going to come with an AMOLED 120Hz display, a massive 120X digital photo zoom, the top-range Snapdragon 888 chip, stereo speakers, and support for NFC. Hopefully, the leap on the wireless charging will be made, so we’ll all get to know more about how Xiaomi achieved this feat.
