The Batman breathed new life into the DC franchise when it was released in 2022. The film grossed more than $770 million globally and was loved for giving Batman a moody and dark dimension. The Batman sequel was scheduled to be released on Oct. 2, 2026. However, that has now been delayed.Â
The Penguin, a Max series set in that same universe, has recently concluded, but fans aren't satisfied and want more. But they will have to wait for some more time. In this article, we will reveal the new release date of The Batman sequel as well as discuss why it was pushed back.Â
Yes, Batman 2 has been delayed. It has been moved from its original Oct. 2, 2026, release date to Oct. 1, 2027.Â
DC Studios head, James Gunn, revealed in a post on the social platform Threads that the delay is due to script issues. He wrote:
"The only reason for the delay is there isn’t a full script. Matt is committed to making the best film he possibly can, and no one can accurately guess exactly how long a script will take to write. Once there is a finished script, there are around two years for pre-production, shooting and post-production on big films."
At the end of The Batman, we saw that Paul Dano’s Riddler was locked away in Arkham Prison. However, Gotham is still grappling with the effects of the flood which includes a ravaged seawall.Â
In an interview with Digital Spy, Matt Reeves said, “There's a lot of unrest and there's a lot of clamoring because of the revelations of what we find out at the end of the movie. As we enter into the next movie, there’s a lot more grey. There are more people at odds and more division in the city… there’s a lot of turmoil because people are in their camps and not communicating."
