If you’re in the United States, you won’t find a SIM card tray on your iPhone 16. Apple and US mobile carriers have been pushing eSIM technology for several years now, which is one reason why US iPhones no longer accept physical SIM cards.
However, it’s worth noting that all iPhone 16 models support dual eSIMs in the US, which means you can use two active eSIM cards at any moment and store eight or more eSIMs.
Outside the US, all iPhone 16 models still have a physical SIM card slot on the left-hand side. Technical specifications of the latest iPhone models say that the phones are compatible with nano-SIM cards. In addition, you’re still free to use an eSIM outside the US if your mobile carrier supports that option.
You can check this Apple support document to find wireless carriers and worldwide service providers that offer eSIM service.
In other words, the situation surrounding SIM cards has remained the same for several years. However, there are plenty of new features in the iPhone 16 lineup, including design changes, better performance, a new ‘Camera Control’ button, and more.
