Hearties, rejoice! Hallmark Media has officially renewed When Calls the Heart for a record-breaking 13th season. The announcement came during the season 12 finale, confirming that the beloved period drama will continue its journey in Hope Valley.
Based on Janette Oke’s novel of the same name, When Calls the Heart follows Elizabeth Thornton (Erin Krakow), a cultured schoolteacher who leaves her city life behind for a new beginning in a frontier town.
The show’s longevity is a testament to its dedicated fanbase, affectionately known as the Hearties. Hallmark Media’s Senior Vice President of Programming, Samantha DiPippo, acknowledged their passion, stating, “Hearties are far more than a fan-base — they are a connected community, as loyal and supportive as the characters of Hope Valley. It is an honor to tell stories of hope, resilience, humor, and romance that continue to resonate with millions of viewers for twelve seasons and beyond.” (via TV Line)
Season 13 will debut in early 2026 on Hallmark Channel, with the next-day streaming availability on Hallmark+.
While official plot details remain under wraps, season 12 set the stage for major developments. The finale saw Elizabeth and Mountie Nathan Grant (Kevin McGarry) embracing their romance but facing a difficult decision regarding their future in Hope Valley, particularly due to Little Jack’s health concerns.
McGarry teased that their journey is far from over, hinting that season 13 will explore “new territory” for the couple. This could mean deeper family dynamics, especially if Nathan’s side of the family is introduced. Meanwhile, Rosemary Coulter (Pascale Hutton) and retired Mountie Bill Avery (Jack Wagner) are expected to continue their investigative pursuits, while Governor Lucas Bouchard (Chris McNally) and Mayor Lee Coulter (Kavan Smith) will remain at the heart of Hope Valley’s political landscape.
Fans can expect most of the core cast to return, including Erin Krakow, Kevin McGarry, Jack Wagner, Chris McNally, Pascale Hutton and Kavan Smith. Other familiar faces, such as Amanda Wong (Mei Sou), Ben Rosenbaum (Mike Hickam), and Viv Leacock (Pastor Joseph), are also likely to reprise their roles. However, newer cast members like Tiera Skovbye’s Ava may not return, as her character’s story reached a natural conclusion.
Season 13 is poised to bring Hope Valley itself to the forefront of the narrative. Elizabeth’s struggle over whether to leave or stay will likely play a major role, emphasizing the town’s significance in the lives of its residents. Additionally, the political and social dynamics of Hope Valley may shift as Lucas and Edie Martell (Miranda MacDougall) continue advocating for the town’s development.
Elsewhere, Rosemary’s Valley Voice radio show is expected to spark new storylines, while the local clinic may undergo transformations to improve healthcare services. Bill Avery’s evolving relationship with forensics agent Georgie McGill (Melissa Gilbert) could also lead to unexpected turns.
One of the most anticipated storylines for season 13 is Elizabeth and Nathan’s blended family. With Little Jack’s diabetes treatment being a major concern, the couple must decide whether to remain in Hope Valley or relocate for better medical care. At the same time, Allie’s growing wildlife passion and budding friendship with Oliver Garrett (Jacob Shoemay) may bring fresh challenges and heartwarming moments.
As When Calls the Heart enters its 13th season, fans can expect heartfelt storytelling, emotional twists, and the ever-present themes of love, resilience, and community. Stay tuned for more updates as production details unfold!
