What is Black Mirror Season 7 About?

Creator Charlie Brooker talked to Netflix about Black Mirror season 7 and described it as a mix of genres. He said, “Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.” Also, Brooker revealed that out of the six episodes, two will be of feature-length. The first one is going to be the season premiere episode itself.

He expanded on what fans can expect from the new season in an interview with Deadline. The creator revealed that:

People can expect quite a lot of emotion and, hopefully, a good mix of chills. We did a couple of horror stories in season six, which we label as Red Mirror. But this time around, the episodes are all, in a way, like OG Black Mirror.” So this season will go back to the basics.

Brooker also confirmed that he wrote one episode and the feedback was, “it was one of the bleakest, heaviest gut punches yet.” He also revealed that, There’s also tech-y episodes and ones that are making people cry. So, hopefully, it’s a full emotional workout, but we shall see. The viewers will be the judge.”

All the stories are going to be sci-fi, but some will have horror mixed in. Brooker cautions that there will be “some disturbing content in it.”

What is the First Sequel Episode of Black Mirror?

Charlie Brooker also confirmed in an interview with Wisconsin Public Radio host Doug Gordon that there will be a sequel episode for the first time, and it will be to the USS Callister episode that kicked off Black Mirror season 4.

But why that episode particularly? In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter Brooker revealed that it was because of the way the first one ended. He explained, “The first one ends like you could just carry that story on and follow where they go now. … There were various iterations it went through, various versions we wanted to do and were discussing on and off for several years.”

But the sequel episode finally came into being despite multiple challenges like conflicting actor schedules and the pandemic. While he doesn’t say who is returning to the sequel episode, he does confirm that Jesse Plemons’ character is dead. Brooker said:

Jesse Plemons, his character is dead, unfortunately. So not to spoil the first one! Yeah, he dies at the end of the first one, so he’s gone, but they’ve got to sort of press on. It’s a nearly feature length extravaganza.”
