Virgin River season 7 is all anyone can talk about after season 6 ended on major cliffhangers. Season 6 picked up a couple of months after season 5’s Christmas-themed episodes and focused majorly on Mel and Jack's wedding as well as the lead-up to it.
At the same time, the season also delved deeper into Mel's relationship with her long-lost father and her parents' past. Apart from the wedding, the show dived into the lives of the other characters, like doc’s medical license getting taken away after a malpractice case was lodged against him.
Also, Brie, Brady, and Mike were entangled in a love triangle. However, the major cliffhanger came when Jack went to check up on his ex-gf Charmaine after her baby daddy Calvin threatened her. He found that her home had been ransacked and she as well as her kids were missing.
So what will happen in Virgin River season 7? In this article we will discuss what the showrunner said about the cliffhangers, season 7 release date, cast, and more. We will also keep updating this article with new information as and when they get released, so stay tuned!
Virgin River was renewed for season 7 by Netflix on Dec. 5, 2024. However, the release date hasn’t been specified yet. Yet, the short gap between the seasons mean that it could become a December fixture. You can catch Virgin River seasons 1 to 6 on Netflix.
You can watch Virgin River on Netflix in the US, UK, Canada, or Australia. However, geo-restrictions may block your access to the show if you are traveling outside these regions. Fortunately, there’s an easy way to navigate these limitations: use a trustworthy VPN to stream Virgin River from anywhere in the world.
When it comes to finding the best VPN for video streaming, look for one that offers advanced features. NordVPN stands out as a top choice, renowned for its impressive speeds and dependable performance. A vast network of servers allows for quick and secure connections from almost any location. NordVPN also strongly emphasizes on user privacy, boasting a strict no-logs policy and advanced encryption protocols. Showrunner Patrick Sean Smith has said that there’s a lot more to be revealed about these characters. As for Mel and Jack, he added that the marriage is just the beginning for them and that in the next season we will see them function as a married couple.
In season 7, the honeymoon phase will be explored and we will see them “building their lives on the farm, which can come with its own obstacles,” the showrunner said in an interview with Tudum. He also revealed that the next season will also explore Mel’s decision to be a midwife.
Season 7 will pick up one or two hours after season 6’s ending. So, there will be no time jumps this time around. As for the cliffhangers, Smith has confirmed in an interview with Deadline that Charmaine's kids will be safe and that the next season will focus more on the “characters that are reacting to the circumstances that result from the cliffhanger that are brought back into our story.”
Fans who want to know if more weddings are coming up will be sad because Smith has said that it is unlikely. However, he said that “sometimes the idea finds its way into couples, so exploring it felt like even more of a way of bringing our supporting characters into the event itself by them evaluating or reevaluating their own individual or couple relationship to marriage.”
But there will be at least one baby in the next season. After all, in the season 6 finale we saw Marley requesting Mel to adopt her unborn baby after another couple backed out. As for Brie, Brady, and Mike, Smith said, “We’ll continue to explore that relationship with Brie and Brady as well as Mike, and looking at the three of them as more of an immediate love triangle.”
Interestingly, Smith teased that season 7 will deal with medicine as it is in our current scenario as well. He said, “I think what Virgin River has done well as far as how it reflects on small town medicine. I’m curious about seeing a little of the current state of medical healthcare and our realities of it seeping into that world.”
There has been no official announcement stating whether season 7 will be the last one. As per showrunner Patrick Sean Smith, there no plans to end the famous show and that it will keep on going till people watch it.
Netflix has confirmed that Season 7 will have 10 episodes of one-hour each. This is the same length as Season 6.
This is the possible season 7 cast:
Mark Ghanimé, who played Dr. Cameron Hayek, will not be returning for Season 7, the actor has revealed on Instagram.
Virgin River has been renewed for season 7, and a prequel spin-off has been greenlit by Netflix as well. The spinoff will focus on Mel's parents Sarah Jensen (Jessica Rothe) and Everett Reed (Callum Kerr). It will also explore the origins of Virgin River in the 1970s. The show doesn’t have a release date yet and is currently getting developed.
About the theme of the prequel, showrunner Patrick Sean Smith revealed, “Keeping things romance-forward, character-based, solid story engines, the beauty of the area, but then putting that in a time period that can inform some of the issues of the time, and that can still speak and feel relevant to issues of today”
Filming for Virgin River season 7 will likely begin in March 2025.
