Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk in a letter revealed what fans can expect in Season 3. He wrote, “The fierce clash between [Gi-hun and Front Man’s] two worlds will continue into the series finale with Season 3, which will be brought to you next year.”
In season 2, we saw Gi-hun become the hero who tracked down the recruiter played by Gong Yoo. He then teams up with Hwang Jun-ho who has been searching for the island where these games are hosted. Gi-hun enters the games again to lead Jun-ho to the island and also to save as many people as he can.
He leads the players through the Red Light, Green Light game and also urges them to vote for their freedom rather than more games. When it becomes clear that the only way out is to fight the game masters themselves, he organizes a rebellion. In the aftermath, The Front Man shoots Jung-bae in the head.
However, Gi-hun is left alive. Season 3 will explore what will happen to him. Also, the post-credits scene shows the surviving players enter the arena to play Red Light, Green Light. But instead of one massive doll, there’s another one. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hwang Dong-hyuk revealed what that is.
He said, “That’s actually a [sneak peek] of Cheol-su, who, like Young-hee, is a new giant doll that we’re going to be showcasing in Season 3.” This will be another aspect explored in the upcoming season.
In Season 2, Player 001 is introduced as Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun). However, he is actually the Front Man, one of the leaders in the Squid Game. He manipulates the players from within and even Gi-hun doesn’t know who he is. Only the audience is aware of his identity.
This is the potential cast returning for season 3:
No trailer is available yet, but we will update this space as soon as it becomes available.
