In Venom 3, Eddie Brock and the titular symbiote, Venom, find themselves on the run, hunted by both their worlds. As the net tightens around them, the duo is forced into a heartbreaking decision that marks the end of their journey together. Tom Hardy returns as Eddie Brock in what is billed as the final film in the trilogy.
The previous films set the stage for their complex relationship. In the first film, Eddie, an investigative journalist, stumbles upon symbiotes, extraterrestrial organisms that billionaire Carlton Drake seeks to exploit for human evolution. After bonding with Venom, Eddie stops Drake and the evil symbiote Riot from destroying Earth.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage sees Eddie face off against Cletus Kasady, a psychopathic serial killer who becomes the powerful symbiote Carnage after biting Eddie. In the end, Eddie and Venom are forced to flee as their identities are exposed.
The post-credits scene of Venom: Let There Be Carnage leads into Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Eddie and Venom briefly enter the MCU due to Doctor Strange’s botched spell. However, they are soon sent back to their universe, leaving behind a piece of symbiote.
As the new film progresses, Eddie and Venom grapple with external threats and their own tumultuous bond, culminating in a devastating decision that defines their final chapter. The film's official synopsis hints at a climactic showdown. Still, plot details remain tightly under wraps, leaving fans speculating about how the multiverse and other characters will factor into their last dance.
The final trailer for Venom 3 provides deeper insights into the symbiote's origin while showcasing glimpses of the film's main antagonist, portrayed by Stephen Graham. It also hints at an emotional resolution between Eddie Brock and his gooey, toothy counterpart. Check out the trailer below for a sneak peek, including an intriguing look at horse Venom.
The first trailer for Venom: The Last Dance, released by Sony on June 3, 2024, reveals Eddie Brock and the symbiote facing a major threat from outer space in what is billed as their final adventure. Following the events of Venom: Let There Be Carnage and Spider-Man: No Way Home, the duo has become fugitives, hunted by a government unit determined to keep aliens a secret. Their troubles escalate as a symbiote invasion looms, risking humanity’s survival.
The title Venom: The Last Dance suggests that this film marks Tom Hardy's final performance as the titular anti-hero, Eddie Brock.
The new trailer for Venom: The Last Dance reveals that one of Marvel Comics' most significant recent villains, Knull, will appear in the film. First introduced in 2018, Knull is the creator of the symbiotes, including the one bonded to Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock. As The Last Dance is poised to be the final chapter featuring Hardy's portrayal of Venom, the story suggests that more symbiotes are coming to Earth to escape their "creator," Knull.
While Knull isn't shown directly in the trailer, Venom explicitly names him as the creator. After his introduction, Knull became a central figure in the 2020-2021 crossover event "King in Black," where he led an invasion of Earth, clashing with major Marvel heroes like the Avengers, Fantastic Four, and X-Men.
However, since Venom 3 is a Sony production and operates outside the MCU, it's unlikely these characters will make an appearance. Still, it could be intriguing if Sony aims to position Knull as a Thanos-like threat for their Spider-Man spinoff universe, compelling various characters to unite against him.
Venom 3 has resumed production after months on hold, with Tom Hardy celebrating the milestone by sharing a new set photo on his Instagram.
This comes after Hardy previously announced via social media that the script for the film was being written, marking the early stages of its development.
Production initially began on June 26, 2023, in Cartagena, Spain, at Los Mateos and Calblanque Regional Park, under the working title Orwell. However, filming was halted due to the SAG-AFTRA strike that began on July 13, 2023. With the strike concluding in early November 2023, production officially resumed on November 16, 2023.
In February 2024, Clark Backo joined the cast in an undisclosed role, and by the end of the month, director Kelly Marcel indicated that filming was completed.
Venom: The Last Dance is directed by Kelly Marcel, who makes her directorial debut after writing and producing the first two Venom films. Marcel co-developed the story with series star Tom Hardy, who also co-wrote the screenplay. The production team includes notable producers Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal, and Hutch Parker, with Joe Caracciolo Jr. as the executive producer.
Marcel is an established screenwriter in Hollywood, with credits that include Saving Mr. Banks, Fifty Shades of Grey, and a "story by" credit for Cruella. She also has television experience, having created and written for series like Terra Nova and The Changeling. This film marks a significant step in her career as she transitions from writing to directing, following the previous directors, Ruben Fleischer and Andy Serkis.
