LG announced that the extremely popular TikTok app will now be included with the 2020 and 2021 Smart TV models. The TV manufacturer said the video content app appeared on the latest webOS 5.0 and webOS 6.0 TV models with the firmware update that started rolling out on October 7.
If you plan on buying a new LG Smart TV model that features webOS 5.0 and up, you're covered. That stands for people who already own one of these - just go to settings and find the "check for updates" button. Also, if you have a 2019 model, you will soon be able to get the app "in the coming months."
The app is launching in Europe (Germany, UK, and France), but there's no news regarding which US regions will get the new smart TV app. Hopefully, that will happen by the end of the year.
TikTok expanded to Android TVs earlier this year, and it was about time to reach LG as well. Even though the app is mainly used by young people, there is something in there for everyone, so you can find content that suits your passions and interests no matter the age.
Meanwhile, the ByteDance-owned app faces a massive legal claim (€1.5 billion reimbursements) in the Netherlands, supported by two consumer protection organizations. The case concerns only underage Dutch users of TikTok who had their personal data scraped by the social media app. At least the US ban was lifted by President Joe Biden this summer.
