The White Lotus season 3 episode 4 progressed the plot forward for multiple characters. Also, we go to see an unknown thief steal a gun from the security center of the hotel. This could mean that we are progressing rapidly toward the opening scene of the first episode of the season, where we saw someone get killed by multiple gunshots.
Apart from this, Rick revealed why he was in Thailand, Tim's problems got worse, and more. In this article, we will discuss what happened in the episode and its curious ending.
Chelsea is worried that something dangerous will happen to her again since she has already had two brushes with death, and as per her, things happen in threes. On the boat, she notices that Rick is in a bad mood. When she corners him, he reveals that he is going to Bangkok to meet the man who owns the White Lotus resort.
He thinks that he killed his father. As per his mother, his father was a good man who worked with the locals to save their lands from being taken by rich men. One of the rich men was the current owner of the resort. One day, his father mysteriously disappeared and was never seen again.
His mother think that the owner of the White Lotus was responsible for the death of his father and caused the tragedy that upended their lives. Chelsea doesn’t want him to rush headlong into this, but Rick has made up his mind and when she’s alone, he leaves.
Tim Ratliff’s problems seem never-ending as the feds are closing in on him. They have been looking into the pyramid scheme that he was a part of with Kenny Nguyen. Kenny has decided to cooperate with the authorities after it was revealed that he will be going to prison eitherway.
So, he gave the authorities a lot of information on Tim. To get away from it all for a while, Tim decided to go on the boat ride with his family (the locations where the show is filmed are stunning). He gave up his and his family’s phones for the week. Also, he began consuming his wife’s Lorazepam, which he emptied by the end of the week.
During the boat trip, Victoria notices that most of the men there are old with a young woman on their arms. She also observes that their pockets are full of money from illegal activities. This prompts her to comment that she and her family are lucky to have Tim as a husband and father since he would never engage in anything criminal.
This brings Tim out of his haze and he calls his lawyer to figure out what to do next. He tells him that the best option is to plead guilty and go to prison for sometime. But Tim can’t fathom losing it all. One interesting thing to note is that lawyer informs Tim that he is lucky that all that he will lose is just his money. This could mean that there’s way more skeletons in his closet.
As Belinda waits for her son at the resort, she finds herself asking more questions about Greg, whom she saw at dinner the last night. So, she googles him and finds that he is the husband who is wanted by the authorities for the death of his wife, Tanya McQuoid.
Belinda is aware now that Greg, aka Gary, has had something to do with Tanya’s murder. But she isn’t the only one playing this game. After their interaction, Greg has become cautious about her as well since she is the only one who can connect him to Tanya’s case.
In The White Lotus season 3 episode 4, we see him googling about her, just like she did about him. So, it looks like it won’t bode well for her in the future.
Valentin emerges as a character hiding more than everyone knows in this episode. In the beginning, when Jaclyn tells him that she wants to explore the place more, he sends her and her friends to a place that is frequented by old people. Secondly, when Jaclyn and her friends ditch the venue and force Valentin to take them to a different place, he does something curious.
He brings along two friends to the party, and it looks like these two men could be the ones who robbed the resort only a day ago. Also, that robbery could have been prevented if Valentin wasn’t there to chat up Gaitok. After all, without him, the security measures would have been in place. So, it’s a possibility that he is the one who orchestrated the robbery with his friends.
At the end of The White Lotus season 3 episode 4, we see Gaitok looking at the gun he had been given to improve the resort's security. However, the show indicates that Timothy stole the gun when Gaitok was walking Mook back to the hotel and had kept the gun on the counter.
This becomes clear when Timothy gets nervous after Pam asks him if he “would like to give that back now?” However, Pam just wanted the phone that he took from the safe earlier. Also, during his phone call, he said that he would prefer to die rather than face the consequences of the trial.
So, maybe that’s why he stole the gun. Or this all could be a huge red herring, and Rick could have taken the gun to use it on the owner of the resort. It will be interesting to see how the next episode unfolds.
The White Lotus season 3 is now streaming on HBO and Max.
