What is the plot of The Naked Gun Reboot?

The plot of The Naked Gun remake follows Frank Drebin Jr., the son of the legendary bumbling detective Frank Drebin Sr. (originally played by Leslie Nielsen). Trying to live up to his father’s legacy, Drebin Jr. takes charge of the Police Squad, stumbling his way through a high-stakes mission to save the world.

The film maintains the franchise’s signature absurd humor and slapstick action, with Drebin Jr. facing off against criminals in the most absurd ways possible. Along the way, he teams up with Capt. Ed Hocken’s (Paul Walter Hauser) son and tackles over-the-top villains while finding himself in increasingly bizarre situations—like disguising himself as a schoolgirl to foil a bank heist.

With nods to the original films, including a satirical take on O.J. Simpson’s Nordberg character, unexpected action sequences, and a dose of self-aware humor, the reboot aims to bring The Naked Gun into a new era while staying true to its spoof roots.

Is There a Trailer for The Naked Gun Reboot?

The teaser trailer for The Naked Gun remake wastes no time in setting the tone, balancing absurdist comedy with action. It kicks off with a tense bank robbery standoff, only for a little girl with an oversized lollipop to casually walk into the crime scene.

What do you want, little one?” one of the armed robbers asks.

Your ass,” she replies—before pulling off a face mask to reveal Liam Neeson as Frank Drebin Jr. In true Naked Gun fashion, chaos ensues as Drebin Jr. turns the lollipop stick into a lethal weapon, swiftly dispatching the criminals.

The trailer also showcases the reboot’s legacy elements, featuring a room where cops pay respects to portraits of their predecessors from the original films.

Neeson’s Drebin Jr. kneels before a framed picture of his late father, Frank Drebin Sr., while Paul Walter Hauser’s Capt. Ed Hocken follows suit for his father. But the moment takes a sharp comedic turn when the camera cuts to a portrait of O.J. Simpson’s Nordberg. Instead of honoring him, his son simply looks at the camera and nods, “Nah.
