Last we saw, Vox Machina barely escaped the wrath of the Chroma Conclave, a deadly group of dragons who ravaged Emon, leaving the team scrambling for survival. Their quest to find the Vestiges of Divergence—a series of powerful weapons—pushed each member to their limits, and just when it seemed they might catch a break, they formed an uneasy alliance with the cunning dragon Raishan, all in a desperate bid to take down the Cinder King, Thordak.

Fast forward to the latest news: Prime Video has just dropped the official trailer for season three, and it’s nothing short of thrilling. Our misfit heroes are seen journeying through hell and back—quite literally—to save Exandria from Thordak’s fiery grip.

As we dive into this upcoming season, expect more high-stakes battles, emotional turmoil, and, of course, plenty of the humor and camaraderie that makes Vox Machina so irresistible. But don’t get too comfortable—this season promises to challenge relationships, reveal inner demons, and test our heroes in ways they’ve never faced before.

Plot

Season three of The Legend of Vox Machina picks up right where the last season left off, with the heroes facing an intense journey to hell in their mission to save Exandria from Thordak, the self-proclaimed Cinder King. The trailer teases epic battles against an army of dragons and otherworldly creatures, all set to the intense track "Bang Your Head" by AWOLNATION, from their album The Phantom Five.

This season continues the Chroma Conclave arc from Critical Role's first campaign, a story known for its complexity and length. Vox Machina’s quest to find powerful artifacts, or "divergences," to aid in their war against the draconic cabal remains a central focus. With the battle against a single dragon consuming an entire season, fans can expect the same deliberate pacing, ensuring the story’s depth isn’t rushed.

A significant twist in this season is the alliance Vox Machina must form with Raishan, the green dragon who has been disguised as Keeper Yennen. Although they are fully aware of Raishan’s potential betrayal, they reluctantly accept her help, adding a constant layer of tension and uncertainty to their plans. As the season unfolds, the team must carefully navigate this uneasy partnership while keeping their true intentions hidden from Thordak.

With the stakes higher than ever and a delicate balance to maintain, this season promises unique challenges and potential surprises as Vox Machina edges closer to a final showdown with the Cinder King. However, as with any D&D campaign, fans should be ready for the unexpected twists that lie ahead.

Will There be a Season 4?

Considering the wealth of source material and the positive reception of the animated series, it seems likely that The Legend of Vox Machina could secure a fourth season on Prime Video. In an interview with Variety, Sam Riegel hinted at the show's potential longevity, stating, "There's a lot more story to tell... We could go for five seasons — or more.”
