Rhiannon Lewis isn’t very memorable and struggles to stand out. People don't notice her as she walks down the street. She keeps getting ignored for a promotion at work, the guy she likes has commitment issues, and her dad is extremely ill. Suddenly, everything in her life changes dramatically when she loses control and transforms into someone new—someone who is confident to do anything. Her life is forever changed as she embraces a new powerful persona, but will she be able to keep her secret?
Purnell also acts as an executive producer for the show. Speaking about her role, she said, "This has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career so far. At its core, the series is about a woman finally finding her voice, told through a uniquely dark and comedic lens. I hope audiences have as much fun going on Rhiannon Lewis’ wild, coming-of-rage journey as we did bringing it to life."
The series is based on the C.J. Skuse’s 2017 cult novel of the same name. Kristie Swain, writer of the comedy-drama Pure, adapted the book.
Krissie Ducker (Killing Eve), Laura Jayne Tunbridge, and Selina Lim (Sex Education, Hanna) have executive-produced the show, along with director Ella Jones (The Baby, Back to Life). It is produced by See-Saw Films and fanboy in association with Sky Studios, and was originally commissioned by Sky Studios for Sky across Europe. Manpreet Dosanjh is the executive producer for Sky Studios, Patrick Walters (Heartstopper) is the executive producer for fanboy, Helen Gregory, Iain Canning, and Emile Sherman are the executive producers for See-Saw Films, and Zorana Piggott (Heartstopper) is the series producer.
Filming for the show took place in the coastal town of Southend-on-Sea between November and December 2023. The scenes were shot at locations such as the Southend Observation Tower on Pier Hill, the Western Esplanade’s Cliff Lift, and the Adventure Island theme park.
