Su Majestad premieres on Prime Video on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2025, with all seven episodes dropping on the same day.
Set in 2024 Spain, Su Majestad follows Princess Pilar, who unexpectedly ascends the throne after her father, King Alfonso XIV, steps back due to a financial scandal. Known for her carefree and reckless lifestyle, Pilar must now prove herself as a capable leader, despite widespread doubts about her abilities.
Blending satire and political comedy, the series offers a sharp critique of monarchy, reminiscent of The Windsors. With biting humor and witty dialogue, Su Majestad portrays Pilar’s struggle to navigate power while being guided by her secretary, who attempts to refine her controversial personality.
The show opens with a memorable gag involving the Copa del Rey final, where Pilar faces an unfriendly reception from Catalan fans. As the creators explained, this sets the tone for the series by exploring what it feels like to be a royal under constant scrutiny.
While Su Majestad plays with royal parody, creators Borja Cobeaga and Diego San José emphasize its realism. Ernesto Alterio describes it as striking “a very good balance between being incisive and not being offensive.” (via ARA) Cobeaga adds, “Society is much more mature than we think. The biggest mistake a creator can make is to think that the public is not up to the task of what he is going to release.”
The trailer showcases a mix of comedic and heartfelt moments, highlighting Pilar's transformation from a party-loving princess to a determined leader.
