The official trailer for Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld offers a tantalizing glimpse into the galaxy's seedy underbelly, spotlighting two of its most enigmatic figures: Asajj Ventress and Cad Bane. The trailer opens with a mysterious voice cautioning, "Never can be too cautious with strangers out here."
This sets the tone for Ventress's journey as she navigates treacherous alliances. A notable moment features a character recognizing her, stating, "You're no stranger, Lady Ventress," hinting at her notorious past.
Bane's storyline appears to revolve around confronting his past. The trailer showcases a tense standoff, with Bane facing an old acquaintance who has now become a Marshal. This encounter suggests a personal vendetta or unresolved history between the two.
The animation style remains consistent with previous Star Wars animated series, delivering dynamic action sequences and atmospheric settings. Themes of redemption, identity, and the blurred lines between good and evil are prevalent, offering a mature narrative that delves into the complexities of its central characters.

As far as we know, there is no direct connection between Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld and the unmade TV series Star Wars: Underworld. For those unfamiliar, Star Wars: Underworld was a project George Lucas was developing before selling the franchise to Disney. Former Star Wars producer Rick McCallum recently discussed it, saying (via Newsweek):
"There were 60 scripts. Third draft scripts. Again, the most wonderful writers in the world on it. Again, we created exactly the same experience for everybody at the ranch. Phenomenal group of talent. These were dark. They were sexy, they were violent. They were just absolutely wonderful, complicated, and challenging. It would have blown up the whole Star Wars universe. Disney definitely would have never offered George to buy this."
Sadly, with an estimated cost of $40 million per episode, the show was never realistically feasible to produce at the time.
The series was created by Dave Filoni, who also serves as the supervising director and executive producer alongside Athena Yvette Portillo and Carrie Beck. Josh Rimes acts as co-executive producer, with Alex Spotswood as senior producer and Matt Michnovetz handling the writing.
