Charter Communications has just launched their Spectrum TV app on the Apple TV store, making a special offer for their old and new customers to get Apple TV for only $7.5/month excluding the taxation for 24 months. Apple’s device can stream 4K content via the Spectrum app, bringing many thousands of new channels and on-demand content (movies, series, sports) to the popular platform. The total cost of the subscription for the contracted period of time reaches $180, which is essentially the same price for the box when purchased directly from Apple.
However, Charter Communications is the first U.S. cable operator to offer this type of deal in collaboration with Apple, making the new user access to the platform easier. More specifically, once the Spectrum customer sets up the Apple TV box, it automatically detects the home network and signs them into the Spectrum TV app without asking for credentials and passwords. One of the new features that the Spectrum TV subscribers will enjoy is Siri, which will be now integrated into the app, making the searching and finding of shows and movies easier than ever, taking it to a whole new level of interaction and assistance.
Rich DiGeronimo, who serves as Charter’s Executive Vice President of Products and Strategy has made the following statement: “We are bringing our customers the most robust Spectrum TV App experience available today through Apple TV. With features like zero sign-on and Apple TV app integration, the Spectrum TV App on Apple TV delivers the best and most seamless viewing experience, giving customers even greater choice and flexibility to enjoy Spectrum TV.”
On a similar tone, Apple’s Greg Joswiak who is the vice president of Product Marketing has said: “With Spectrum TV on Apple TV 4K, customers can now enjoy the ultimate entertainment experience across their iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. We want to help customers get right to watching their favorite channels, shows, movies, and sports, and with innovative features like zero sign-on, the Apple TV app, and Siri, they are able to jump right in.”
Charter Communications is making a bold marketing move here, as the second-largest cable operator in the United States has achieved a strategically important partnership with Apple. Charter is already offering a rich set of products and services relevant to broadband communications, with the Spectrum series being at the epicenter of their consumer service success.
