What is the plot of South Park Season 27?

Season 27 of South Park is gearing up to tackle some of the most controversial and timely topics with its signature absurdity. The trailer hints at a war with Canada, as the show revives Blame Canada while chaos unfolds. Meanwhile, French citizens attempt to reclaim the Statue of Liberty, seemingly responding to a real-life politician's request for its return.

The season also appears to take on aviation disasters, with Butters struggling as an overwhelmed air traffic controller while planes collide behind him. Another standout moment is Randy’s drug-fueled antics, as he casually tells Sharon, “I’m just gonna do some ketamine and f** around with the government a little.”

Diddy makes an unexpected appearance, flying through space with the boys and Starvin’ Marvin. Meanwhile, Cartman is seen in a hospital with a woman in labor, and Kyle appears to be transforming into a turkey, hinting at a bird flu episode.

While South Park’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, don’t write episodes far in advance, the show’s quick production turnaround ensures it stays fresh and relevant. With global politics, pop culture scandals, and real-world chaos all on the table, season 27 is shaping up to be as unfiltered as ever.

Is There a Trailer for South Park Season 27?

The South Park season 27 teaser wastes no time diving into the show's signature chaos. It opens with eerie live-action shots of a deserted park swing and an airplane wing, accompanied by the words, "The acclaimed drama returns." But this isn't a drama—it’s South Park, and things escalate quickly.

The first animated scene shows Randy Marsh sitting on Shelley’s bed, a Wicked movie poster behind them. He turns to her and casually asks, “Shelley, have you been taking ketamine? Because I think it could really help you.

From there, mayhem unfolds. The town of South Park is in flames. The Statue of Liberty is violently pulled down by French citizens on boats. Meanwhile, Butters, stuck in an air traffic control center, watches in horror as planes explode mid-air. He panics, yelling, “Oh crap, we’re all gonna get fired!

The chaos doesn’t stop. Kyle grows feathers. A deadly bird flu spreads. Dirty toilets overflow. Then comes the biggest shock: Diddy is in space, chasing Cartman across an alien world, wielding a gun.

As the trailer nears its end, Randy’s wife, Sharon, watches him walk away and asks, “Where are you going?” With absolute nonchalance, Randy replies, “It’s okay, Sharon. I’m just going to do some ketamine and f* around with the government a little. See ya!”

The teaser also features a haunting new rendition of Blame Canada, making it clear that a full-blown war with Canada is coming. Explosive, unhinged, and completely unpredictable, South Park season 27 looks set to take on everything from politics to pop culture—with no limits.

Why was South Park Season 27 Delayed?

Trey Parker and Matt Stone revealed that South Park season 27 was intentionally delayed to avoid airing during the 2024 presidential election. While the show has tackled political themes before, the creators admitted that election cycles bring added pressure.

Speaking to Vanity Fair in September 2024, Stone explained, “We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to—it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance.” Parker added, “Obviously, it’s f------ important, but it kind of takes over everything and we just have less fun. I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.

Although the last full season aired in early 2023, South Park released a 2024 special, The End of Obesity, following past specials like Post COVID (2021) and Joining the Panderverse (2023). Meanwhile, Parker and Stone are also working on a mystery feature film with Kendrick Lamar, set for release on Mar. 20, 2026 (via Deadline).

Will There be more Seasons of South Park?

Trey Parker and Matt Stone secured a massive deal with Comedy Central in 2021, reportedly worth around $900 million, to extend South Park through Season 30, keeping it on the air until 2027. (via Deadline)

Speaking with Bloomberg’s Lucas Shaw last year, co-creator Matt Stone addressed the show's future, saying, “We don’t have an end in sight… I will say, honestly, it’s because it is still such an awesome sandbox. You know, we are working on a movie right now, a live-action movie, and when we get back to South Park, it is going to be like, ‘Oh, right, here we go.’ I cannot wait to hang out with those characters again, to be cheesy about it, but we love doing South Park.

Behind the Scenes

Co-created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone, South Park has been a television staple since its debut in 1997. The series, now renewed through 2027, remains cable’s longest-running scripted show as it approaches its 30th season.

Parker and Stone serve as executive producers alongside Anne Garefino and Frank C. Agnone II. The production team also includes Eric Stough, Adrien Beard, Bruce Howell, and Vernon Chatman, with Christopher Brion as the creative director of South Park Digital Studios.
