Today, Snapchat has announced a new redesign for its iOS app. Just at the end of the last year, the company had introduced a new design which caused a lot of anger among users. In fact, users were so annoyed by the new layout that over 1.2 million dedicated users signed a petition for Snapchat to revert the old design. It looks like their voices were heard by the company and thus today we are getting another layout.
The "new" layout places Snaps and Chats in chronological order again. The developers moved your friends' Stories to the right-hand side of the app. Once you open the app, a camera turns on and by swiping to the left you can access the right-hand screen.
Just like before, your friends' Stories will remain separate from branded content. There is also a separate feed named "Subscriptions", where you can search for popular creators and publishers. Bellow Subscriptions, a suggestion feed named "For You" is placed based on your history.
As most readers already know, Snapchat has been having financial difficulties for quite some time now. Even though the company has drastically improved its user count, it has actually made less money per each user than before. The cause of this is probably an inefficient business model which is why Snapchat has been trying out different kinds of advertisement systems on their platform. The Verge says that this update was announced back on May 1st by the company's CEO Evan Spiegel who said at the time that Snapchat is working hard on combining tasks like Stories and Chats in order to make them easier to work together and create a more efficient UI.
The current update will be available for the majority of iOS users but we still don't have any information whether it will be available on Android.
