Dish Network’s Sling TV streaming television service has announced the upping of the free DVR storage that users can enjoy for recording purposes across all live-linear channels. Regular customers will get an additional 50 hours (up from 10), while “DVR Plus” users will now get a whopping 200 hours of storage (up from 50). The pricing for the particular add-on remains at $5 per month. According to the group’s president, Michael Schwimmer, Sling TV customers have asked for this repeatedly, and the service listened.
Users who have recorded something can rewatch it from any device that supports the service. Moreover, there are no show-specific recording limits, and there are no expiration times, so the only ceiling is the available storage.
Commercials that are inevitably recorded can be fast-forwarded. When the capacity is filled, but the user still wishes to record something, Sling TV will automatically delete the oldest “watched” recording to accommodate the need. Of course, the user can save something as “favorite” and protect it from this auto-management system.
Along with the DVR storage bump, the service announced a new pricing model that mostly concerns new customers of the Orange and Blue plans. Those two will now cost $35 per month, up by $5. For the Orange + Blue bundle, new customers will now have to cover a cost of $50 per month, which is again up by $5 compared to the previous price.
The Sports Extra add-on is now priced at $11 per month - or $15 for those who subscribe to the Orange + Blue bundle. The cost for other extras (Comedy Extra, Kids Extra, News Extra, Lifestyle Extra, and Hollywood Extra and /or Heartland Extra) is now set to $6 per month, going up $1. The Total TV Deal that includes all programming will cost $21 for the new customers that choose the base plans or $27 for the ones that pick the bundle ($1 increase and $2, respectively).
Finally, the platform will now offer a free preview of the 4 Extras Deal for the new Orange + Blue subscribers until February 15, 2021. After that, the special deal that bundles Kids Extra, News Extra, Lifestyle Extra, and Comedy Extra will be available for $12 per month instead of the standard $24.
Sling TV currently offers a library of 150,000 titles across 700 channels in 27 languages. It features integration with TiVo and LG Smart TVs (2020 models) and offers high versatility levels, allowing customers to build the package that suits their specific needs. From NBA TV to Disney, and from Viacom to Fox, there’s a lot to be found and enjoyed in the particular live streaming TV service. With all that’s on offer, the recording function’s storage upgrade will definitely come in handy.
