Season 1 of Skeleton Crew has ended but the final episode has left a lot of questions which viewers want answers to. In this article, we will recap episode 8 titled, The Real God Guys, and discuss what happened.Â
Jude Law’s Jod, pretends to be a visiting Emissary and talks to the parents of Wim, Fern, Neel, and KB. Fara and Wendle, the parents, fall for Jod’s lies. Even when the latter wants the kids to be confined to their rooms so that they can’t reveal his real identity, Wendle doesn’t object. He doesn’t say much even when Jod wants droids monitoring them.Â
Jod sees that Fern is the one who is most likely to cause trouble so he makes her accompany him to meet the Supervisor. Fara also volunteers to go. Meanwhile during dinner Wim almost reveals to Wendle that Jod isn’t a real Jedi, but stops himself before spilling the beans.Â
Wim also tries forming a plan with Neel after dinner to rescue Fern, but with the droids eavesdropping, Neel doesn’t want to get into trouble. On the other hand, when Jod, Fern, and Fara get to the Supervisor’s quarters, they discover something surprising- the supervisor is a droid who has been monitoring and getting things done on At Attin.Â
However, the Supervisor is soon able to call Jod’s bluff because he had received word from the Republic that all Jedis were traitors. He also says that no Emissary had visited At Attin in a long time and believed that no one ever would. When almost cornered by the droids, Jod fires up his lightsaber and ends the Supervisor.Â
However, there’s a problem- Jod drove his blade into the Supervisor’s orbital socket, which caused the whole planet to lose power. Fara says that she can help his ship get through the barrier. Jod takes her up on the offer but not before keeping his lightsaber trained on the mother-daughter duo.Â
He tells Gunter to get the frigate through the barrier so that they can launch their attack on At Attin. Wim and Wendle watch as the frigate starts battering the innocent citizens of the planet. Then Neel, KB, Wim and Wendle go on a rescue mission. Along the way, Neel gets shot off his bike by a pirate while the others get a surprise when they finally reach the Onyx Cylinder- the ship has docking clamps keeping it grounded.Â
Since the entire planet’s power is out, they are stuck. However, Wendell knows how to get power to the docking clamps as a Level 7 Systems Coordinator. As for Neel, his separation from the gang proves fruitful as he finds a turboblaster like the one Hayna had. Back with Jod, Fern starts formulating a plan to take him down when he instructs his pirate crew to keep the people of At Attin alive because he needs them to work in the mint.Â
Fern tells Fara to distract Jod while she gets a blaster from one of the powered-down droids so that they can stun him. However, he gets to know of this plan and fires a warning in their direction. But Wim tells Jod that they have sent a signal to the B-Wings to handle their pirate problem.Â
Jod doesn’t believe this, but Wim doesn’t need him to. All he needs to do is keep Jod distracted enough for Wendle to get power to the docking clamps. Thankfully, he succeeds before Jod finds out what’s going on. Across the town, KB gets the Onyx Cylinder working and blasts off.Â
KB gets through the barrier with Neel using the turboblaster to help her out. However, the pirates destroy his blaster before he can do much damage to them. KB sends At Attin’s coordinates to Kh'ymm to get assistance and also promises to send the New Republic for help.Â
Jod seems remorseful when he sees the Onyx re-enter At Attin’s atmosphere and fears that one of the kids is going to die. However, he still prevents Wim’s father from lowering the barrier. This makes Wim rant that Jod has never been a Jedi, instead he’s a liar. Finally, this makes Jod tell his backstory.Â
Jod reveals that when he was a kid, all he cared about was not starving to death. A Jedi found him and wanted him to have a better life. However, she was hunted down, and he was made to watch as she was killed. This shows why Jod was so perplexed when the kids were loved by their parents.Â
Also, it shows what a broken system can do to kids. All in all, Jod isn’t so much an outright villain, as he is a morally gray character. He wants to get credits in any way possible to get by in life. Jod also says that he doesn’t want to damage the planet, just control it.Â
Everyone realizes that Jod will have to be stopped and Wendle just punches him directly in the face. This makes Jod drop his lightsaber and Wim grabs it. He then uses the Force to shove Fern and get the lightsaber back. After a tussle, Wendle and Fara overpower Jod, lower the barrier and the New Republic launches an attack on the pirates.Â
Jod resigns him to his fate and accepts that his dream of unlimited credit is over. Yet it seems like the kids harbor no animosity toward him, and neither does he toward them. The kids and their parents make it to the crash site where they find that KB and SM-33 survived.Â
It now remains to be seen whether the show will come back for another season or not. But for now, all episodes of Skeleton Crew are streaming now on Disney+.
