The site-blocking measures to protect copyrighted material in Spain have inadvertently disrupted thousands of legitimate websites. Developers created some tools to access illegally blocked websites like Cloudflare status monitoring for LaLiga blocks and the LaLiga Block Evasion Filter, Lock Checker, and IP List.

Site blocking was initially presented as a targeted solution to restrict access to pirate websites, with assurances that fundamental rights would remain intact.

However, blocking measures have reportedly affected not only infringing websites but also legitimate platforms such as research institutions, media outlets, and even cultural organizations.

A recent case in Spain highlights this overreach, where thousands, potentially millions, of innocent sites were blacked out during football match broadcasts. Such actions may undermine confidence in site-blocking efforts while offering pirates opportunities to exploit these disruptions for their gain.

Developed to mitigate service interruptions during LaLiga's blocking activities, the Cloudflare Status Monitor script automatically detects when Cloudflare-protected websites are being blocked and adjusts configurations to ensure uninterrupted access.

Key features include:

The LaLiga Block Evasion Filter addresses blocked IPs by dynamically replacing them with alternate, unblocked IPs from the same CDN, ensuring websites load correctly. It operates by continuously rotating blocked addresses and rerouting traffic, proving effective in bypassing restrictions.

Designed for comprehensive evaluations, the LaLiga Lock Checker tool scans domains to determine whether they are affected by blocks and deploys a VPN for secondary testing if necessary. The results, including metrics such as response time and status, are logged into a detailed CSV report for analysis.

Recognizing the challenges of indiscriminate blocks, the LaLiga IP List repository compiles whitelisted IPs unintentionally impacted by LaLiga’s enforcement strategies. Automatically updated twice daily, the list helps businesses and organizations regain normal web functionality.
