Is There a Trailer for Severance Season 2?

The Severance season two trailer shows Mark, Helly, Irving, and Dylan being welcomed back to Lumon as the "face of severance reform" after their rebellion. Mr. Milchick turns their defiance into a corporate asset. Mark confronts Harmony Cobel about his wife Gemma, who is revealed to be "Ms. Casey" at Lumon.

A new supervisor Miss Wong is introduced, and surreal scenes with goats and eerie imagery hint at deeper mysteries. Mark returns to find new co-workers and a creepy watermelon head resembling Irving. The stakes are escalating.

In the teaser, Mark is seen running frantically through Lumon’s white, sterile hallways, growing increasingly stressed. He eventually stumbles upon a new office space, where he encounters three unfamiliar faces—played by Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, and Stefano Carannante—sitting at desks in the Macrodata Refinement area.

Confused, Mark asks, “Who are you people?” before being greeted by Mr. Milchick, who arrives with balloons bearing Mark’s face, delivering the chilling line, “Welcome back, Marcus. Been a minute.”

What Happened in Severance Season 1?

In Severance season one, we follow Mark Scout, who joins Lumon Industries to escape the grief of losing his wife, Gemma, in a car accident. The company’s “severance” procedure disconnects his work life from his home life, allowing him to detach from painful memories.

Mark grows increasingly curious about Lumon after his friend Petey goes missing, and new recruit Helly becomes determined to escape the oppressive office. The season ends on a cliffhanger, with Mark, Helly, and Irving using the company's Overtime Contingency device to temporarily experience their lives outside of Lumon.

They each uncover shocking truths: Helly learns she’s the daughter of Lumon’s CEO, Mark discovers his deceased wife is alive as Lumon’s wellness advisor, and Irving finds his romantic interest Burt in another relationship. As they try to expose the company's secrets, the characters are abruptly returned to their "innie" states.

In the finale, “The We We Are,” the characters’ lives collide with Lumon’s dark secrets. Mark’s neighbor, Harmony Cobel, is revealed to be his boss at Lumon, and after Mark shouts that his wife is alive, the group is forcefully reverted to their severed states. Meanwhile, Dylan, who activates the device, faces consequences as Lumon’s forces move to maintain control.

How many Seasons will Severance span?

Speaking to Esquire, Dan Erickson shared, “There's an overall plan for the show. I have an end point in mind, and I intentionally didn't plan it season by season, because I wanted it to be flexible enough that we could get there in two seasons or six seasons. I want to allow us to be surprised by where the show goes. There’s a sense of what Lumon is trying to do and the role that our main characters are going to play in that, and where it all will culminate. It's really exciting to think about taking the next step on that trip.”

While season two hasn’t even premiered yet, there are already plans for future seasons. Co-executive producer Mohamad El Masri revealed that the show’s full arc has been mapped out, with work on season three already underway during season two's production.

Even in season two, the team has been thinking ahead to how it will set up future seasons. However, when it comes to how long viewers will need to wait between seasons, El Masri was unsure, acknowledging the unpredictability of Hollywood production timelines.

What are some Interesting fan Theories for Severance Season 2?

We don’t know much about Severance season two beyond the new trailer, but creator Dan Erickson teased some exciting details. He mentioned that the world of Lumon will expand, showing more of the building and the outside world. He also hinted at a flexible story arc with a definite endpoint, where the main characters' roles in Lumon’s plans will culminate in unexpected ways.

Fans are already sharing theories on the Severance subreddit, with many speculating that the Eagan family uploads their consciousness into a computer. One theory suggests Irving, with his military background, might be an undercover operative investigating Lumon. Erickson hinted at exploring other uses for the severance technology, broadening its societal applications.

And then, there are the goats. Many fans wonder about their purpose, with theories ranging from cloning to brain experiments. Erickson confirmed the goats will play a bigger role in season two. He also clarified that the office is real and not a simulation, debunking one popular theory.

Filming for Severance season two began on Oct. 3, 2022, in New York City and was initially scheduled to conclude by May 12, 2023. However, production faced interruptions due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America strike, halting work on May 8, 2023.

Production officially restarted on Jan. 29, 2024, with Apple TV+ releasing a behind-the-scenes look featuring Adam Scott in character, confirming progress.
