Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will be Tom Holland's co-star in MCU’s fourth Spider-Man film. Destin Daniel Cretton, who previously directed Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is helming the currently untitled film. So, what role is she playing in the film?

What role is Sadie Sink Playing in MCU’s Spider-Man 4?

It hasn’t been officially revealed what role Sadie Sink will play, although Deadline has stated that- “the prevailing theory is she’ll be introduced as X-Men character Jean Grey.” However, the outlet also hints that she could play Peter Parker’s main love interest in the comics- Mary Jane Watson.

The internet has been filled with other rumors too. Many think that she could play Gwen Stacey while others are of the idea that she could be Kitty Pryde. Spider-Man: No Way Home ended with Peter completing Doctor Strange’s spell to erase his identity from the world.

So, if that plotline is followed up (and also with Peter moving away for college), Holland’s old castmates may take a backseat while new castmates will be added. Sink is probably the first addition in what is going to be a long list of newcomers to the franchise.

Is Zendaya Coming back for Spider-Man 4?

All signs point to Zendaya coming back for Spider-Man 4; however, it will probably be in a limited role. The question that many are asking is: Will Sadie Sink be MCU’s actual Mary Jane? After all, Zendaya’s character is called MJ, but her name, Michelle Jones-Watson, has been a point of contention in the fandom.

After all, it is close enough to the Mary Jane name to be a homage, but it is also not exactly the same. So, there’s room for Sadie Sink to be the ‘real’ Mary Jane. However, it doesn’t seem to be a path that the MCU will take. After all, Zendaya, a high-profile actress in herself, is also a major part of the Spider-Man franchise.

So, bringing in a new MJ seems unlikely. As such, the possibility of Sadie Sink being Jean Grey in the X-Men seems high.

Spider-Man 4 has a theatrical release of July 31, 2026.
