Plot

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Marvel takes a self-aware dive into the multiverse with Deadpool reluctantly reuniting with Wolverine to save their universe. Now a disillusioned used-car salesman after losing his girlfriend Vanessa and failing to join the Avengers, Wade Wilson's life takes a turn when the Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent Mr. Paradox enlists his help. Learning that his timeline is collapsing due to the death of its "anchor being" Logan, Deadpool must find Wolverine in a parallel universe to avert disaster.

With the TVA’s TemPad, Deadpool travels through timelines, eventually recruiting an alternate, grumpier Wolverine to join his fight. Along the way, they encounter a chaotic TVA wasteland known as The Void, filled with discarded elements from the Marvel and Fox universes.

Here, they face off against Cassandra Nova, the malevolent twin sister of Professor X, who allies with the TVA to control The Void. Supported by a resistance group, Wade and Logan battle Cassandra’s forces and dismantle her plans to destroy all timelines, barely escaping alive.

Ultimately, Deadpool and Wolverine share a near-fatal confrontation with the "Time Ripper," saving Earth-10005 from collapse. Deadpool is left to rebuild his life with Logan at his side, and, with TVA Hunter B-15’s help, brings the resistance fighters from The Void to safety.

Despite its meta-humor and Marvel callbacks, Deadpool & Wolverine serves as both a close to the Fox-era X-Men and a disruptive entrance into the MCU, complete with cameos, multiverse chaos, and irreverent humor that promises fans a bold new chapter for Deadpool.

Is Deadpool & Wolverine Worth Watching?

Deadpool & Wolverine is proving to be a major box office hit, second only to Inside Out 2 for the year, with strong domestic and international numbers. But it’s more than just the numbers drawing people in; audiences are raving about the film.

The movie currently holds a 94% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, signaling widespread approval among viewers who appreciate its wild humor and relentless action. Critics, however, are slightly less enthusiastic, giving it a more reserved 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Few critics awarded Deadpool & Wolverine an impressive 4 stars, noting that despite some "Disney-fying" of Marvel's most notorious antihero, it still packs enough thrills and laughs to entertain. The film may lack some of Deadpool’s signature irreverence, but its “action-packed, gag-stuffed” approach gives the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) a boost. Other critics had mixed opinions; while some celebrated its chaotic fun, others, like The Independent and The Hollywood Reporter, found it "tedious" or "overstuffed."

In short, if you’re a fan of Deadpool’s irreverent style and Wolverine’s grit, this is definitely worth a watch. The film offers a unique mix of humor and action that reinvigorates the MCU, even if it doesn’t fully return to Deadpool’s edgier roots.

How is Logan back? Is Deadpool & Wolverine set in the MCU?

While Deadpool & Wolverine keeps the details of Logan's return under wraps, the movie seems set to follow a similar approach to Spider-Man: No Way Home, using the multiverse to connect its various storylines. Deadpool might leap into a different universe, encountering familiar Marvel characters and possibly meeting a version of Wolverine who’s still alive, despite Logan’s tragic end in Logan. With the multiverse in play, these once-impossible crossovers suddenly open up endless possibilities.
