Roku is readying to premiere 23 new ‘Originals’ titles for free this Friday (August 13, 2021) on the ‘Roku Channel.’ The new line-up will include four titles that will be exclusively available on the platform, namely the ‘Eye Candy,’ Squeaky Clean,’ ‘Thanks a Million’ (Season 2), and ‘What Happens in Hollywood.’ In addition to these four, all coming from Quibi’s original collection, the Emmy multi-nominated ‘Mapleworth Murders’ will also be brought onto the platform, making its debut on the Roku Channel on Friday.
The rest of the new titles that will be made available for free are the following:
Back in May, Roku released 30 of Quibi’s original shows for free on the Roku Channel but promised that more would come soon. This roll-out brings some more of Quibi’s shows for the viewers to munch on, and there are still more to come. Many of them still require some post-production work to be ready for their debut, and others were half-finished when Quibi went defunct.
Roku currently has more than 55 million active accounts, and the platform that started as a streaming players service back in 2002 is still growing strong despite hiccups. In fact, it appears that the streaming platform and hardware vendor company is momentarily very lucrative for investors, who believe that the cord-cutting wave will continue to fuel its growth, no matter the turbulence caused by the firm’s Q2 2021 report.
