For some time now, Roku has been in talks with Apple to bring home support for AirPlay 2. We don’t have any official answers as to when that will happen. The only thing we have to work with is a statement from a Roku spokesperson stating, “we don't have anything to share regarding this now.”

However, according to MacRumors and their trusted sources, the deal is nearly finalized. It seems that both companies are currently working out a launch date and a marketing strategy surrounding the big news.

As of now, it doesn’t seem like the company will be launching any new Roku devices for AirPlay 2 compatibility. The current expectation is that the company will send out OS updates enabling AirPlay 2 integration to existing Roku Media Players.

However, we are yet to know if all Roku devices will support the service, or whether it will be reserved only for the high-end models.

Regardless, we do expect Roku powered smart-TVs to support AirPlay 2. This includes the models coming from brands like TCL, Sharp, Hisense, Hitachi, Sanyo, and even RCA. In fact, back in January this year, Apple had already announced that AirPlay 2-enabled smart TVs were soon to hit the market.

Now, AirPlay 2, as a service is somewhat inaccessible to the general populous because of the ridiculous price tag that comes with Apple TV. But with Apple’s partnership with Roku should greatly improve their reach and make the service available on almost any smart TV with an HDMI port to plug-in in a Roku player.

So are you excited about AirPlay 2 support on your Roku Media Player? Share your thoughts on in the comment section below. Also, connect to us on Facebook and Twitter to be updated as soon as the deal is confirmed.
