Qualcomm announced three new mid-range chipsets: the Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429, for the mobile platforms. These chips will focus on bringing advancement to the mid-segment mobile devices, including the better battery life, more efficient designs, impressive artificial intelligence, advanced graphics and overall higher performance.

The idea behind this advancement in lower Snapdragon tiers is to transform the majority of the consumer market which primarily relies on mid-range phones. The midrange phones that will use this new release: Snapdragon 632, 439 and 429, make the highest selling section of mobile devices. The new chips are 25 percent faster than the previous generation chip.

Talking about the specifics, the 429 chip supports the dual 8-megapixel camera or a single 16-megapixel camera and is compatible with a screen resolution of 720p. The 439 will support 1080p and are compatible with the 21-megapixel cameras or the 8-megapixel dual cameras. On the other hand, the 632 chip is 40 percent faster than its predecessors and supports the 1080p resolution with camera capabilities that go up to 24-megapixels or a dual 13-megapixel setting. The announcements also mentioned that the 632 is also capable of capturing 4K video and has an LTE Modem with faster speeds.

These chips will be available in the market in a few months from now. Experts say that this isn’t an exciting news for the consumer base, as the alternatives of these capabilities are already available in the market. However, this is a huge deal for manufacturers and make their mid-range phones more compelling for the market.

The announcement clearly states that the new chips are pin compatible with all the existing software ecosystems which means less or no hassle for the hardware companies to make a switch between the last and the latest. As per the stats, currently, more than 2,300 devices are based on Snapdragon 400-tier mobile platforms and 1,350 commercial devices on Snapdragon 600-tier mobile platforms.

Snapdragon is known for inventing breakthrough chipsets to accommodate the needs of the future mobile devices, and this upgrade on the mid-range sets is aligned with the same philosophy. While the naming of these chips clearly indicates that there isn’t any big upgrade on the new mobile devices, it is definitely an upgrade for manufacturers.
