Sony has just released a new update for their PlayStation Vue app for Apple TV. It now supports integration with the TV app. This allows you to track your content through the TV app on iOS and tvOS. This might not seem that big, but there are a lot of benefits that come from this integration.

For starters, it makes it super simple for subscribers to track when new content comes out. The whole user experience will be similar to that of Hulu, where you can easily track on-demand movies and TV shows through the TV app itself. This adds a whole new layer of convenience.

On top of this, the app now has support for live sports. The “Up Next” window will show all upcoming games, and the user can directly jump into them from the TV app.

All this makes PlayStation Vue the first streaming TV provider to offer integration with Apple’s TV app. However, do note that any PlayStation Vue content you choose to open through the TV app will take to your Vue application. But even still, having access to all the content from a single interface does make for better user experience.

It is a wonder why other streaming TV providers have not made the same decision? For example, DirecTV Now - who has been in the game for quite some time now is still reluctant to provide integration with the TV app. This forces users to launch the standalone app to access all the content, let alone stream them.

In other news, Apple is expected to launch subscription support for Apple TV starting next year. This means you will have the option to subscribe to your favorite services like HBO straight from the TV app. On top of that Apple will also begin rolling out their own content from next month.

This makes it an excellent time to offer integration with the Apple TV platform. It seems Sony has made a wise decision in this department.
