IPTV seller Dragon Box signed an agreement with the filmmakers of the movies “Once Upon a Time in Venice” and “Mechanic: Resurrection” to settle a piracy lawsuit. The filmmakers filed a lawsuit accusing the defendants of copyright infringement earlier this year in the District Court of Hawaii. Dragon Box has been facing immense legal pressure from other members of the entertainment industry as well. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) sued the IPTV box seller and its distributors “JB Dragon Box-Hawaii Kai” and “The Dragon Box Hawaii” over copyright infringement.
Dragon Box will be altering its IPTV boxes to prevent further instances of copyright infringements against the filmmakers of “Once Upon a Time in Venice” and “Mechanic: Resurrection.” However, details about the monetary compensation behind the settlement have not been revealed to the public.
The filmmakers behind the lawsuit stated, “Simply put, Dragon Box is intentionally inducing infringement. Plaintiffs respectfully request that the Court enter a preliminary injunction that requires the Dragon Box Defendants to halt their flagrantly illegal conduct immediately”. The agreement signed by the filmmakers restricts the defendants from selling the boxes until ‘software modifications’ are made to the devices that prevent infringement of the filmmakers’ copyrights.
IPTV boxes like Dragon Box are designed to offer users the ability to manage and view online, but they can also be powerful tools of piracy. The entertainment industry has been actively suing IPTV sellers over copyright infringement recently. The Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment which represents major industry players like Netflix, Amazon and several Hollywood studios has been actively suing popular IPTV sellers.
