Pierce Brosnan wants the next James Bond Actor to Fulfil this 1 Criteria

There has been a lot of movement regarding the James Bond franchise these past few weeks. For one, Amazon now has control of the franchise, which comes after years of failure to kickstart the next Bond saga. A lot of people on the internet have different opinions regarding who should play James Bond. 

Actor Pierce Brosnan, who has played James Bond (and for many, he is the definitive face of the character) has also given his opinion on who should be the next Bond. As per him, the actor should first and foremost be British. 

Pierce Brosnan Wants a British Bond 

Pierce Brosnan, in an interview with the Sunday Telegraph (via BBC), said that it was a “given” that the famous spy should be British even though multiple Americans are rumored to be circling the role. Brosnan, who is Irish, played the character from 1995’s Golden Eye to 2002’s Die Another Day. 

As for whether the character has been played by other non-British actors in the past, yes, he has been. Australian George Lazenby has also played the character before. Among the internet’s favorites are English actors Henry Cavill, James Norton, Theo James, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. 

Actors of other nationalities like Australian Jacob Elordi, Irish stars Paul Mescal and Cillian Murphy, and American Austin Butler are also favored by many fans.

Pierce Brosnan also said that Amazon did the right thing by taking control of the franchise from the long-standing producers. He further complimented the latter on their courage to let it go. As for what he hoped next for the character and the franchise, he said, “I hope that [Amazon] handles the work and the character with dignity and imagination and respect.”

The deal states that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson will remain the co-owners of the famous spy franchise, but Amazon MGM Studios will have creative control. As for his time as the character, Brosnan only had good things to say. He said, “I'm very proud to have been part of the history and the legacy of Bond and the movies I made with Barbara and Michael."

The last film in the Bond franchise was 2021’s No Time To Die starring Daniel Craig. A timeline for the next film hasn’t been set yet.
