Season four of Outer Banks picks up after the events of season three, where the Pogues found the gold at El Dorado but suffered the losses of Ward Cameron and Big John. The new season delves into the consequences of their discovery and the challenges that follow. The Pogues return to the Outer Banks (OBX), hoping to settle into a "normal" life. They establish a new home, "Poguelandia 2.0," and start a bait, tackle, and charter tour shop.
However, financial difficulties soon force them to reconsider Wes Genrette's offer to find Blackbeard's treasure. Drawn back into the high-stakes world of treasure hunting, the Pogues find themselves in over their heads, facing dangerous new adversaries and racing against time to secure the treasure. As they navigate these challenges, they must confront deeper questions about their identities, their pasts, and the risks they are willing to take for each other.
The season promises to explore the strength of the Pogues' bond, with the stakes higher than ever. As they embark on this new adventure, they're forced to question whether their journey has been worth it and how much more they're willing to risk.
The official teaser for Outer Banks season four gives fans a thrilling glimpse of what’s to come. It starts with a peaceful look at life in "Poguelandia," but quickly shifts to high-stakes action as John B reveals that this time, they’ve got "everything to lose." It teases intense nighttime scuba diving, high-speed motorbike chases, and more dangerous adventures as the Pogues return, with the story picking up right where season three left off. As John B reflects on their journey, he notes, "That's where the story should've ended. Unveiled at Netflix's TUDUM event, the Outer Banks season four trailer gives a glimpse of the Pogues back in their element on Kildare Island, standing by their trusty van, the Twinkie. While the trailer keeps most details under wraps, its lighthearted vibe and summery soundtrack suggest that the upcoming season will maintain the series' signature fun and the tight bond between the group.
In February 2023, Poguelandia took over Huntington Beach, California, with an immersive fan event that brought the Pogues' island paradise to life. The entire Pogue crew, along with Drew Starkey and Austin North from the Kooks, hit the stage at Poguelandia to announce that season four was on the way—even before season three had dropped.
Sitting on the edge of the stage, Chase Stokes shared the exciting news with the crowd, making them the first to know that "Outer Banks has been renewed for a fourth season!" He also took a moment to thank the fans for their unwavering support over the past three and a half years, saying, "This is an incredible moment for all of us. To our cast and crew, thank you so much for all of your hard work.”
The original plan was to wrap the show after four or five seasons, but the showrunners have reconsidered. In an interview with EW, Josh Pate shared, "I can't put an exact number on it right now—how long it takes to reach that ending might change, but we now understand the shape of the story's conclusion. We'll definitely continue for as long as we can.”
The gang returned to Kildare Island, along with the Twinkie, in June 2023. Behind-the-scenes photos capture them back on set as filming for the fourth season kicked off on June 17, 2023. For the first time in the series' history, filming included locations in greater Wilmington. However, production was temporarily halted during the week of July 14, 2023, due to the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike. Filming resumed in North Carolina on Nov. 20, 2023, and later moved to Morocco in Feb. 2024, with shoots in Essaouira and Ouarzazate. The fourth season officially wrapped on June 20, 2024.
Production is complete. The Pogues have wrapped up their wild journey, with Stokes calling it a "crazy, crazy journey." Now that filming is finished, the cast is eager to dive into post-production. The video above shows Grant trying her hand at ocean sound effects and Daviss experimenting with editing. They're all "so stoked" to bring season four to fans. Now, it's just a matter of counting down the days until post-production wraps up, and we'll be back on Kildare Island before we know it.
