Oculus Rift users will soon be able to stream apps like Echo VR, VR Sports Challenge, and Dead & Buried to Facebook as part of a major social update to the platform. Users can share their VR experience with other Facebook users right from the Dash Menu which will offer recording options once the update goes live. Live Streaming will not be available for all VR apps as it is up to the respective developers to enable the feature, but Oculus has promised that hundreds of apps are ready for streaming already.
Public Homes are the other major update to Oculus Home users. Users can share their Homes publicly, and the platform will also be showcasing unique homes. The feature is completely optional, and Homes are private by default. Users can simply set their Homes to “Public” from their Dash Menu settings if they want to share their unique items and layouts with other users.
Oculus has promised maximum security and privacy with users having full control over their guests’ ability to view their Homes. Abusive behavior can be reported, and unwanted visitors can be muted and blocked using the Rift headset. Both the new features are available as part of the Rift Public Test Channel program, and if you want to check them out right away, you can sign up for the program. The update with both features will be appearing sometime later this month.
The update comes shortly after it was revealed that Facebook (Oculus’ parent company) is restructuring its Building 8 team to focus more on VR and Portal devices. More updates are expected later this year with the social media giant channeling more resources into Oculus.
