Nokia is continuing to impress with its lineup of entry-level Android devices. After months of leaks, the Nokia X5 joins the X series of competitively priced Android devices from the Finnish manufacturer. The Nokia device will be available in China starting tomorrow. The X5 features a notched display similar to the Nokia X6, with the option of hiding the notch from the settings via a software tweak. Nokia has not spilled the details on the global availability of the device globally yet, but analysts expect the X5 and X6 to debut sometime this quarter in all markets.
In the software department, the Nokia X5 runs near-stock Android 8.1 Oreo with some of Nokia’s homebrewed apps. The device is powered by an eight-core Heloi P60 SoC. Nokia has been known to use Qualcomm chipsets but opting for an Helio processor allows them to price the phone competitively without losing out on performance. The P60 performs toe to toe with the Snapdragon 636, which was used on the X6 and is a common SoC used in mid-range and entry-level devices from other manufacturers.
Users have the option of choosing between two models - 3GB RAM + 32GB storage and 4GB RAM + 64GB storage options. The X5 features a 2.5D curved surface display with a resolution of 1520 x 720. The dual camera setup includes a 13MP + 5MP dual rear camera setup with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus and an LED flash for low-light photography.
You also have a selfie camera sporting an 8MP resolution and f/2.2 aperture with an 80.4-degree wide-angle lens. Under the hood, the X5 comes with a 3,060mAh battery. While the phone comes with a USB-C port, you do not get access to fast charging. You also get the usual connectivity options with the Nokia X5 including 4G LTE connectivity, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and a 3.5 mm audio port.
