Exciting New Features Are Landing on Facebook's Instagram and Messenger
Last updated September 27, 2021
With many forms of media being digitized, the New York Public Library has found an intuitive way to keep the younger generation engrossed in books. The Instagram Stories feature is now the library’s preferred mode of storytelling with animated images stringed together to narrate classics to all followers of the official account.
The Insta Novels campaign was made possible through a partnership between the New York Public Library and renowned ad agency Mother in New York. The official Instagram account now hosts multiple Instagram Stories while staying true to the original design of the books. Users simply need to hold the screen and read the animated pages of books. Simply open up a Story on Instagram and let the pages transition to relive some of the best classics in literature. If you want to breeze through the pages, tap on the white markers at the top and you will be able to browse through pages rapidly.
The goal of the Instagram Stories is to make novels more accessible while also encouraging more people to read. Partner and Chief Creative Officer of Mother in New York Corinna Falusi revealed "Instagram unknowingly created the perfect bookshelf for this new kind of online novel. From the way you turn the pages, to where you rest your thumb while reading, the experience is already unmistakably like reading a paperback novel." Simply head to The New York Public Library’s official account and you will be able to read the digitized versions of classics starting today.
The digital books can be accessed at any time by clicking on the novels highlighted on the main page of the library’s Instagram account under Highlights. The “Insta Novels” were launched today with Alice in Wonderland, the first book to be featured. Digital versions of The Yellow Wallpaper and The Metamorphosis will be added to the social media account in the coming weeks.
