Get ready for Joe Goldberg's final chapter, as production for You season 5 has officially ended. While we are a bit sad that the saga is ending, we are also excited to be able to stream the latest installment of this popular series soon!

For the uninitiated, based on Caroline Kepnes's novels, You is a psychological thriller about Joe, a book-loving romantic who stalks and kills the women he claims to love, as well as anyone else who stands in his way.

On March 24, 2023, it was announced that the fifth season would be the final one. Peter Friedlander, Vice President of Scripted Series, Netflix, US and Canada, said, "We’re excited—and a bit terrified—to see how it all ends for Joe Goldberg, but one thing is for sure: YOU are in for an unforgettable ending."

Penn Badgley (who plays Joe) recently shared a video of himself going to work on his last day of filming for the show, where he said that he was being "very demure" and "very mindful."

In this article, we will tell you everything you need to know about You season 5, including a tentative release date, details about the plot, new and returning cast members, a teaser video, and more. We will also update this article with new information as and when it becomes available. Until then, here's everything we know so far.

Release date & Where to Watch

Unfortunately, we don't have a release date yet, but we are expecting it sometime in 2024. As soon as there's an official announcement, we will update this space. And as usual, you will be able to stream it on Netflix.

Plot

There isn't much revealed about the plot of You season five, but one thing we know for sure is that we will be introduced to Joe's new extended family this season. Griffin Matthews will play the role of Kate's (Joe's new wife) brother, and Anna Camp will have a dual role, playing Kate’s identical twin sisters.

In last season's finale, we saw Joe reveal the truth about himself to Kate, who, surprisingly, accepts him for who he really is. He finally returns to New York, feeling liberated and fully accepting his identity as a murderer and also one of being "a survivor of a violent partner." We are not sure if, at this point, Kate is aware that he killed her father, and we might get some answers in season five.

Sera Gamble, who was the showrunner of the previous installments, said, "In many ways, when you’re not in denial about your intentions, you can plan better. So it’s less that we think he’s going to cut a bloody swathe in New York City, although we also wouldn’t put it past him." She added, "He has regained his name and now he is much more in the circles that he used to watch from afar and just judge. He can have all of that access, all of those resources, and none of the anonymity that he used to have in New York."

Behind the Scenes

While season 1-4 showrunner Sera Gamble has stepped down from her role, she will be an executive producer on season five. Former executive producers Michael Foley and Justin W. Lo will be the showrunners this season. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will produce.

In a statement, Gamble said, "As I step back from day-to-day showrunning to focus on new projects, I'm immensely grateful to co-creator and all-around genius Greg Berlanti, Caroline Kepnes, my friends at Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment, and our steadfast partners at Warner Bros and Netflix. Making the show alongside our writers, producers, directors, cast and crew has been an honor and ridiculously fun. And I feel lucky to have worked with an artist as gifted and thoughtful as Penn Badgely. I'm proud of what we've all accomplished and feel privileged to pass the torch. I'm excited to watch and support the You team as they bring Joe Goldberg's journey to its delightfully twisted conclusion."
