During the last couple of weeks, Microsoft has been dropping clues about its foldable smartphone all over the Internet. This happened most prominently on Twitter, with numerous high-ranking Microsoft employees posting photos of the Surface Duo in the context of using it in their everyday lives. And now, a set of official-looking images has surfaced online, showing us the final design of the device.
Evan Blass, one of the most prominent smartphone leakers, is the individual responsible for this set of photos (found below). As we can see, the foldable smartphone won't bring any drastic design changes compared to what we've seen last October, when the Surface Duo was announced. The most noticeable difference is the inclusion of a flash in the device's top-right corner (in its "open" state).
The Surface Duo images show the device's appearance in its open and closed state from several angles. If we look at various icons found in these images, we'll see several Microsoft- and Google-made apps. It appears the Redmond-based company will heavily rely on Google's apps, including the Phone and Messaging apps. The device should also come with the Google Camera app, with its icon being slightly tweaked.
It's interesting to note that these images show two folders on the device's home screen. For example, in the Google folder, we can see the Play Store and YouTube apps. And there's also a shortcut to launch Edge and OneNote simultaneously by triggering this specific dual-screen configuration. We expect these configurations to be fully open once the device ships, allowing you to combine any two apps simultaneously.
Blass also notes that these images are of "Microsoft Surface Duo for AT&T." Considering that there's no carrier branding on these, we'll need to wait on Microsoft's confirmation regarding the smartphone's availability. And speaking of the availability, we've seen reports that the Surface Duo will launch internationally.
Finally, allow us to remind you of the smartphone's rumored specifications. It's expected to come with dual 5.6-inch screens and will be powered by a Snapdragon 855, with 6GB of RAM. Three storage configurations are expected – 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB. There's going to be a single 11MP camera that serves are the front and rear facer. And lastly, the battery will be rated at 3,460mAh with USB-C charging.
Of course, there's still plenty we don't know about the Surface Duo. Most importantly, we don't know the smartphone's price. However, according to numerous leaks and rumors that have started to appear daily, we expect Microsoft some official info very soon.
