Microsoft announced Project Sangam, a cloud-based initiative to equip job-seekers with skill and get them a better job opportunity in India.
CEO Sathya Nadella Spoke in Microsoft's 'Future Decoded' event in Mumbai stating that Project Sangam "is actually coming together of Microsoft and Linkedin" which was acquired by Microsoft for $26.2-billion last year.
In Hindi, Sangam means "coming together". The service has LinkedIn Lite integrated into it and is designed to work on slow and metered internet connections, which is very common in India.
He also introduced Skype Lite app combining with Aadhaar card which is specifically designed for Indian Market allowing to make video calls on 2G and unstable connections.
"Project Sangam was born out of what we observed uniquely in India," Nadella said at the congregation of business leaders, designers and thinkers. "It is a cloud-based solution for skill development and employment," he said.
The entire thing is built upon the country's central database of its citizens through which people can enrol using Aadhaar Card and later utilise LinkedIn to manage their profiles.
"Other new products include a Placements app that will help college graduate get better jobs,” Nadella said.
By this way, college grads will now find it easier to connect with recruiters for jobs. Once the enrolled users get trained in the preferred sector, Microsoft updates their profile and shares it to the employers.
In the Sametime, the candidates get "personalised job recommendations" via SMS alerts.
Linkedin has currently 430 million users worldwide and 35 million are Indians. All new Linkedin Lite and Project Sangam initiates more LinkedIn users from India and a good support to the Prime Minister Modi government's Skill India mission and it will start its phase from Andhra Pradesh.
