Microsoft will be releasing a permanent Dark Mode for its Outlook email service this year. A temporary Dark Mode was released for the email service last year during Halloween, and it became a heavily requested feature ever since it was taken down. Microsoft started working on the new Dark Mode a few months back, and the theme is in its final stages of development.
Microsoft teased the upcoming feature recently in one of their feedback posts. The tech giant promised to offer the best dark mode on any email client for Outlook users. An Outlook team member revealed in a feedback post “One reason for the delay is our insistence that we deliver the best Dark Mode of any leading email client (you’ll understand when you see it, I guarantee). The sneak preview you saw last year at Halloween was a prototype that required a lot more work to be ready for prime time.” The team member also revealed that developers have changed the color scheme and code multiple times to perfect the upcoming feature.
Dark Mode is one of the most requested Outlook features in the feedback forums, and it seems like the tech giant will finally heed to user requests. While the feature does nothing when it comes to raw functionality, it allows users with bright displays or dark surroundings to read comfortably. Dark Mode is also great for devices with AMOLED displays, to offer better contrast compared to brighter color schemes.
Microsoft Outlook was released as a successor to the tech giant’s previous email client Hotmail. Microsoft has been actively updating the email client to offer new features, and a recent redesign was also pushed out in March. The email service currently experiences over 400 million active users.
