Microsoft Fans Petition to Save the Andromeda Device from Being Shelved

While many news outlets revealed that Microsoft’s heavily coveted Andromeda project is in the works and an announcement can be expected by 2019, a recent report suggests that the tech giant may be canceling the project altogether. The Andromeda device is supposed to be a portable Surface phone-like device that combines the capabilities of Microsoft’s own full-sized Surface tablets in a small form factor. The device is supposed to include a dual-screen setup with no physical keyboard.

The petition reads “All the fans of windows phone want Microsoft to release the Surface Phone aka Surface Andromeda Phone Project that has been leaking out lately with the phone screen that can turn into a tablet. I’m doing this petition to see how many people would buy this phone if Microsoft would release it. Money is power, and if a lot of people want a Surface phone like the ones in the leaks, then they will be forced into action as everyone knows Microsoft wouldn’t be able to give a reason on why not to do it to their investors, as its too much of a money opportunity to miss. I myself wouldn’t mind paying between $799-$999 for this phone if it happened and looked like the pictures that we have seen from those leaks.”

The legitimacy of the recent rumor about the project being closed down is unknown. Fans were distraught by the report and started a petition to release the Andromeda device. The petition serves as an indicator that fans are interested in the product and that Microsoft should not cancel the release. Over 1800 signatures were collected within 22 hours of the petition page going live. However, with Microsoft ‘teasing’ the product very recently it is likely that we will be receiving a dual-screen device in the near future.

The petition page at Change.org cites multiple reasons not to back out from the Andromeda project including nostalgic value, the Surface branding and also the potential for the device to be a game-changer in the mobile industry. Whether or not the petition will gain any traction is yet to be seen, but with most rumors in favor of the release of the device, we should not lose hope.
