Matthew Lillard is most famous for being Shaggy in the Scooby Doo live-action films. Along with that, he is also known for starring in the first 1996 Scream film as Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher. Now, the actor is back for another dip into the famous horror franchise. But how is that possible when the last time we saw Stu, Neve Campbell’s Sidney dropped a TV on his head when he was chasing her?

That’s not all, Billy and Stu also began stabbing each other to make themselves look like the victims as well. This just moments before Sidney got them. So how will Lillard’s return in Scream 7 work? In this article, we will discuss that.

Matthew Lillard Joins Scream 7 cast

Scream launched Matthew Lillard’s career and now the actor is back to star in Scream 7. He will join Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell as well as Scott Foley, Mason Gooding and Jasmin Savoy Brown.

Along with the legacy cast members, there are also new cast members like Asa Germann, Joel McHale, Celeste O’Connor, Isabel May, Sam Rechner, Mckenna Grace, Anna Camp, and Mark Consuelos who will be a part of the film. Scream 7 will be directed by Kevin Williamson with a script from Guy Busick.

The actor celebrated and confirmed his return through an Instagram post that said- "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me!" Check out the post below:

How will Stuart ‘Stu’ Macher Return in Scream 7?

Not much is known about the plot of Scream 7 as of now but it has been confirmed that Scott Foley, who played Roman Bridger, the killer filmmaker in Scream 3, will return in Scream 7 as well. His return is a headscratcher as well because it seemed like his fate was sealed by the end of the film. After all, he got shot in the head.

But his as well as Matthew Lillard’s return seems to hint at a possibility of Sidney being haunted by the ghosts of all the people who were killed as Ghostface. After all, dead Ghostfaces have returned in the character’s memories. However, another theory is also possible- Stu never actually died and instead survived the TV smash.

Scream 7 will be in cinemas on Feb. 27, 2026.
