Facebook has suffered from a number of controversies recently, which include the Cambridge Analytica scandal, the US Presidential election scandal in 2016, fake news, security breaches and more recently, its public affairs controversy with GOP. CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been heavily criticized and he responded to a large number of issues raised by critics in an interview broadcast by CNN.
Zuckerberg appeared in CNN’s 'Human Code' series and talked about his company’s failings and his control over the company. He did not reveal anything new and despite reports of the company having leadership issues currently, Sheryl Sandberg’s position as COO of the company remains intact.
Zuckerberg went at length to speak about Sandberg stating: “Sheryl is a really important part of this company… She’s been an important partner with me for 10 years. I’m really proud of the work we’ve done together and I hope that we work together for decades to come.”
Another question many critics had was if Zuckerberg will continue being in his role of Chairman at Facebook’s board. He will not be stepping down and he wants to continue in his role in the years to come. Despite the self-made internal crisis at the company at the leadership level, the CEO played it down saying radical changes do not make any sense right now.
Aside from the number of privacy scandals, the company has been having a rocky relationship with the GOP crisis communications group. The group has asked Zuckerberg to step down as chairman and also relinquish some of his power at Facebook. Zuckerberg currently commands most of the voting power in the company and if he steps down as the chairman, the voting system will be 'fairer'. However, the CEO is far from being done with his role at the company.
