According to the most recent and relatively reliable price rumors on the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup, the base 64GB model is going to start at $649. The ultimate 512GB version of the higher range model, the iPhone 12 Pro Max, is going to top at $1,399.

As for the cheapest 5G iPhone 12, that one is going to start from $799, which is actually on the range of the recently released Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, and also the Google Pixel 5.

iPhone 12 Price Leaks
Model 64 GB 128 GB 256 GB 512 GB
iPhone 12 mini $649 $699 $799
iPhone 12 $749 $799 $899
iPhone 12 Pro $999 $1,099 $1,299
iPhone 12 Pro Max $1,099 $1,199 $1,399

Those two devices are sold for $100 less than the iPhone 12, but if you do the comparison, you’ll see that this hundred more is actually going to get you a lot of stuff that you can't ignore.

The Pixel 5 costs $699, and it comes with a Snapdragon 765G, which isn’t even considered at the same performance level as the A14 Bionic that will beat inside the new iPhone lineup. So, it looks like Google is giving up trying to compete in the flagship devices category. However, at this price range, they are going directly against iPhone 12, and it doesn’t look good for them.

Then there’s the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition), which is an “affordable flagship.” It has an IP68 rating, an amazing super AMOLED display refreshing at 120Hz, and runs on the powerful Snapdragon 865 (with Adreno 650), so it generally is a much better competitor for iPhone 12 5G.

However, Samsung’s device doesn’t snap images at the quality of its bigger brothers and is certainly far from what the iPhone 12 will be able to do on that compartment. And as for the screen resolution, that 1080 x 2400 at a size of 6.5 inches (407 PPI) won’t look as crisp as iPhone 12’s 2532 x 1170 at 6.1” (460 PPI). And also, did we mention that it’s made of plastic?

If we were to talk about software support, Samsung can’t compete in this field against Apple and never even pretended it could. iPhone 12 has at least four years of OS updates ahead of it (in practice, this is usually extended to six years or more), whereas the Galaxy S20 FE can hope for Android 12 at best. Pixel 5 will also get three years of Android OS updates - so again, Apple is offering a lot more for that extra $100.

All of this is based on rumors, of course, and if it’s the “Pro” that will get the 5G connectivity after all, we’re looking at $999. That said, we’re only trying to make valid assumptions based on what we know right now, and the above will either solidify or be dismissed, depending on what Apple will announce in about ten days from now.
