Now, with Landman on the horizon, he’s taking on the cutthroat oil business in Texas, where fortunes are made—and destroyed—overnight. Co-created with Christian Wallace, the series promises to deliver more of Sheridan’s signature blend of complex characters, political intrigue, and jaw-dropping drama.

Release date & Where to Watch

Landman is set to premiere on Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024, exclusively on Paramount+. The season will consist of 10 episodes, with the first two available to stream immediately upon release.

Pro Tip

Landman is currently only available to viewers in the US, and those outside the country may face geo-restrictions preventing access. However, there’s an easy solution! By using a powerful VPN such as NordVPN, you can bypass these regional blocks and stream Landman from anywhere in the world. Simply connect to a server in the US, and you'll have unrestricted access to the latest episodes.

Plot

Landman is inspired by the 2019 podcast Boomtown, an eleven-part documentary that explored the Texas oil industry and its environmental impacts. Set in the boomtowns of West Texas, the series follows the Norris family as they navigate the high-stakes world of oil rigs. Paramount+ describes it as an "upstairs/downstairs" tale of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires chasing fortunes, reshaping the climate, economy, and geopolitics along the way.

Jon Hamm, who stars as an oil baron, explained that the series centres on landmen—those who acquire mineral and land rights in hopes of striking oil. He emphasised the show's focus on oil speculation rather than the cowboy themes often seen in Taylor Sheridan's works.

Demi Moore, who also stars in the series, praised Sheridan's writing for its dynamic and complex characters, noting that Landman is crafted with a larger, epic narrative in mind. Fans of the business and political intrigue of Yellowstone will likely enjoy the intricate manoeuvrings in Landman.

Official Trailer

In the trailer, Billy Bob Thornton races through the rugged Texas terrain in a dusty white pickup truck, scanning for anything suspicious. "The oil and gas industry pulls in $3 billion a day in pure profit," Thornton says in a voiceover. "But before any of that money comes in, you’ve got to secure the land and handle the people. The first part’s easy, it’s the second part that might get you killed.”

Will there be a Season 2?

Even though the first season has yet to air, Paramount+ seems confident about Landman. Demi Moore revealed at the Cannes Film Festival that she expects to return for a second season in early 2025.

Filming

In February, Paramount+ confirmed that Landman began filming in and around Fort Worth, Texas. Production moved quickly, with Jon Hamm revealing to People in mid-March that they were already halfway through. He also shared that the show takes a different direction from Taylor Sheridan's usual cowboy themes, focusing instead on oil speculators and the "landmen" who acquire mineral and land rights in hopes of finding oil.

Hamm described the show as full of intrigue and well-researched, adding, "It's an interesting take on how we get the resources that power our modern world."

Filming wrapped in June 2024 and took place almost entirely around Fort Worth, Sheridan's hometown, using real oil workers for added authenticity.

Behind the Scenes

Sheridan co-created Landman with Christian Wallace, a Texas Monthly staff writer who also wrote and hosted Boomtown. Wallace serves as an executive producer on the series alongside Sheridan.

The show is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, and Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch Productions. Additional executive producers include David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, and Stephen Kay. Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch from Imperative Entertainment, and J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt from Texas Monthly also executive produce, with Peter Feldman serving as co-executive producer. Landman is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
