Netflix’s Kinda Pregnant, starring Amy Schumer is gaining traction worldwide due to its quirky premise. In the film, Schumer’s Lainy Newton always wanted to be a mother. However, the sudden collapse of her long-term relationship meant that she would have to wait a little. 

But her plans change when she finds out that her best friend, Kate, is going to become a mother. Jealousy, heartbreak, and ill-advised decisions make Lainy decide to fake a pregnancy with a belly bump. To make matters worse, she meets the man of her dreams who thinks that he’s dating a mom-to-be.

However, the demise of her long-term relationship meant that she would have to wait to fulfill the dream. But Kate getting pregnant sparked a curiosity in her to experience what it felt like to be pregnant. So, she put on a bump and attended a prenatal yoga class where she developed a friendship with Megan. This led to her developing a lie about her life. 

How does the Truth About Lainy’s Pregnancy get Revealed?

In Kinda Pregnant, Lainy went to extreme lengths to present herself as pregnant in front of Megan and hide the truth from her best friend Kate. The middle school teacher does everything from hiding a balloon under her dress to hiding in a kids’ toy basket to keep her secret intact. 

However, things come to a head when Shirley overhears a conversation between Lainy and the school’s guidance counselor, Fallon. The two were trying to figure out how to get Lainy out of the web of lies she had sewn herself in. But Shirley misinterprets it as Lainy being pregnant and trying to figure out a way to abort the baby. 

This results in Shirley sharing that with Kate, and the latter then thinks that her best friend is keeping a huge secret from her. Things come to a head at Kate and Shirley’s joint baby shower. There, Shirley tries to announce Lainy’s pregnancy and abortion to everyone. 

Now, Lainy is trapped and there’s no way to escape this, so she tells the truth- she had never been pregnant to begin with. Megan and Josh, who were also invited, leave the party once they get to know that they were lied and misled to the entire time. 

Do Megan and Kate Forgive Lainy in Kinda Pregnant?

Initially, Megan and Kate both are angry at Lainy due to her lies. However, since Kate is her best friend, she decides to hear what made Lainy go to such extreme lengths to create an elaborate lie. Lainy explains that she felt isolated and jealous of Kate when she got to know that she was beginning a new chapter of life with Mark, her boyfriend, and Shirley, another mom-to-be. 

A heart-to-heart conversation makes Kate forgive her because, in the end, all she wanted was for Lainy to be there for her during such an important time in her life. As for Megan, Lainy approaches her, and the two talk through their issues. Megan understands what it means to be a woman in society who has the expectations of motherhood placed on her. 

Do Lainy and Josh end up Together in Kinda Pregnant?

Initially, Josh refuses to give her a chance. After all, when he and Lainey met, he had just come out of a relationship that had ended poorly. So, he was having a hard time trusting anyone, and yet he gave Lainy a chance. But her lies pushed him away. So, Lainy and he went without any contact for weeks. 

In the meantime, Lainy mended her friendship with Megan and Kate. She supported the latter when she gave birth and also learned the importance of valuing herself above all. After enough time passes, Josh shows up outside her school in a Zamboni to convince her to give them a chance. This restarts their relationship again.
