DC fans were excited when it was revealed that James Gunn had unveiled a new clip from the upcoming Superman movie at CinemaCon 2025. Now, the DC Studios boss had tripled the excitement of the fans by doing something not many do- releasing the same footage for the general public to see. However, not many are too happy with what they are seeing.
In the clip released, Superman can be seen dropping from the sky straight into the snow. He is bloodied and injured. The man of steel whistles for Krypto, who comes, but instead of helping straight away, he jumps on Superman, making him groan in pain.
However, the dog does drag Superman into the Fortress, which rises from the snow. Then, he is attended by the robots from Krypton. Superman thanks them for helping him, but they say that his words are wasted on them since they are merely automatons who are there to serve.
At the Fortress, they scan him and find that he has suffered fractures and injuries to the bladder, kidneys, and more. Thankfully, they can heal him. The solution is to blast him with a healthy dose of the yellow sun. Check out the clip below:
On the DCU Cinematic subreddit, fans are having mixed reactions to this clip. User UniQue1992 said:
“It looks so cheesy… I’m not a fan of that. They continue to market it like that as well. I guess the next Superman movie will not be for me.”
However, another user, MaximumOpinion9518, said that they liked it:
“I dig it. The fortress looks great, the healing actually being painful feels unique and well done, and of course Brosnahan is brilliant casting. The krypto stuff feels a little long but it's out of context and probably comes right when you need a breather and release of tension given the shape superman is in.”
Another user, PretendMarsupial9, said that they loved Krypto:
“Krypto is so cute. I think every pet owner can relate to your pet jumping on you at the worst moment. My cat does this a lot.”
James Gunn said in CinemaCon 2025 (via Deadline): “How can you take a character like that, perceived as old fashioned by many, so many permutations throughout the years … how can you do it for a modern audience? And one day it suddenly hit me in a burst, and I wanted to do a story that was utterly human, utterly fantastic.”
He then said, “This is a movie that celebrates kindness and human love. I want people to have that magical feeling when they come out of the movie and they love the person they came with a little more than when they went in…The flying dog, the giant Kiju, pocket universes, old things that were in the Max Fleischer cartoons. It took a long time to get there.”
Superman hits theaters on July 11, 2025.
