Can You Charge iPhone 13 with Old Charger? – YES, But There’s a Catch!
Last updated September 15, 2021
The freshly introduced iPhone lineup is an exciting step forward in many aspects. Still, this latest iPhone generation isn't a drastic departure from what we saw last year. And when it comes to what's the same, it's true that the iPhone 13 isn't waterproof. Instead, it's water-resistant. Here's what that means exactly.Â
As per Apple’s support documentation, the iPhone 13 lineup is splash, water, and dust resistant – when tested under controlled laboratory conditions.Â
More precisely, the latest iPhone generation has a rating of IP68. That means that your iPhone can be underwater up to 6 meters and up to 30 minutes before suffering water-based damage. In addition to that, the latest iPhones are resistant to accidental spills from common liquids, such as soda, beer, coffee, tea, and juice.Â
In other words, the iPhone 13 isn't waterproof, which means that it won't last very long when submerged underwater. For a smartphone to be waterproof, it needs to come without any ports. In the past, we’ve seen rumors about a "portless" iPhone – but it looks like we’ll need to wait a bit more for that to happen.Â
As per its IP68 rating, the iPhone 13 won't suffer any damage if you take it while swimming in the pool (for a quick session, of course). Still, we don't recommend doing that.Â
Once again, don’t forget that the iPhone 13 isn’t waterproof. So, if you drop it in the pool by accident, bring it back to the surface immediately, wipe it off, and dry it as soon as possible.Â
In general, salt water is highly corrosive. Remember that even though the iPhone 13 is water-resistant, it's not a good idea to take underwater photos in saltwater.Â
Keep in mind that Apple is quite explicit about the ways you can use your iPhone. And per the company’s support documentation, you shouldn’t take your iPhone with you while swimming, showering, or bathing. If your phone suffers water damage during those or similar activities, its warranty might not cover the cost of repairing it.Â
