The iPhone XR is not only Apple’s most affordable handset to release this year but also one of the company’s most successful devices in 2018. The “low-cost” iPhone managed to command 32% of all iPhone sales in the first 30 days since the release of this year’s lineup of Apple phones.

According to Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, the iPhone XR is not only attracting Apple enthusiasts to ditch the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus which were the go-to options for users looking for budget iPhones.  During its first month of sales, the iPhone XR managed to attract 16% Android users while iPhone X stands at 11%. Other competitively priced devices like the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus accounted for only 12%.

CIRP partner and co-founder Mike Levin revealed “It appears that iPhone XR did serve to attract current Android users. Of course, Apple doesn’t just state plainly its launch strategy. But, based on the pricing and features, we can infer that Apple positioned the iPhone XR to appeal to potential operating system switchers from Android.”

According to CIRP, pricing is the major factor that causes users to switch platforms. With the average flagship iPhone being priced well above what devices with similar hardware running Android were marked at, users were reluctant to swap.

A number of market analysts revealed that the pricing of this year’s flagship iPhone devices caused a decline in sales figures. However, the iPhone XR seems to be beating the trend even though the pricier iPhones are not. Apple revealed earlier this year that it will not be publishing its sales figures going forward as they do not accurately represent the company’s financial performance.
