What is the plot of Hurry Up Tomorrow film?

Directed by Trey Edward Shults, Hurry Up Tomorrow follows a musician, played by The Weeknd, who is struggling with insomnia. His encounter with a mysterious stranger, portrayed by Jenna Ortega, propels him into an odyssey that slowly unravels his sense of self.

As the journey progresses, his grip on reality begins to fracture, leading to a psychological and emotional breakdown. Barry Keoghan also joins the cast, adding to the film's already unsettling narrative.

Jenna Ortega describes Hurry Up Tomorrow as an “experimental telling of what it means to be an artist who is changing, evolving, managing their past while trying not to fear the unknown. What a mental block can do to one’s sense of self.” (via EW

This psychological thriller, intertwined with The Weeknd's sixth studio album of the same name, promises a unique fusion of music and storytelling, making the soundtrack an essential part of the film’s experience.

Shults explained the film’s core, saying, “It's about an artist, you could say, on the verge of a mental breakdown […] He meets this woman, and they go on this odyssey together. It's a mix of psychological thriller and drama. I honestly feel like I've never seen a movie quite like it.”

Is There a Trailer for Hurry Up Tomorrow?

In the newly released trailer for Hurry Up Tomorrow, The Weeknd portrays a musician grappling with insomnia, embarking on a journey with a mysterious stranger that delves into the depths of his existence. The trailer emphasizes a moody atmosphere, complemented by intense visuals and a soundtrack crafted by Daniel Lopatin.

Is the Hurry Up Tomorrow film Based on The Weeknd's real life?

While the film’s main character is a successful pop star similar to Tesfaye, it's more of a loose interpretation of his time in the limelight. The inspiration for the character came when Tesfaye lost his voice mid-song during a sold-out show on his last world tour, leading him to reflect on what would happen if he lost it all.

"I feel like we created a character that isn't exactly him, but it's honest to his soul and what he could have been if things went differently in life," said Shulz. "I think his character is in need of self-reflection. He's kind of at a crossroads in his life." (via Harpers Bazaar)

The Weeknd also told Variety, "I knew that I really needed to sit the f--- down and figure out my life. I'd had a kind of a mental breakdown, which is pretty much what this new album's about."
